A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER

A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER
In Michigan, following Christmas, is an opportunity
for exciting adventure, at least for some of us who
enjoy cars. it has been my privilege to make an annual
visit with friends. This year, my executive engineer
friend, one of his sons and a friend, were privileged
to make this exciting journey to Detroit.

Because of living about half-way between Chicago and
Detroit, nearly two hours are spent, each way, in an
automobile. It is an enjoyable experience to be a
passenger in his Ford SHO. In Ford language, that is
not a “run of the mill” Ford.

On the return trip mention was made about the
privilege we have of making trips and having enjoyable
experiences because of the “good times” in which we
live. The thought was expressed that this may not
always be our experience (financially).

President Clinton reminded the nation, and the
watching world, the other day, that we have never,
ever, ever lived in such good times (financially). I
experienced, as usual, disappointment of any reference
at all that it just might be we are reaping God’s
goodness to us as a nation.

Lack of any reference to God in relation to our good
(financial) times, causes me deep disappointment.

Moses, still considered by our Jewish friends as the
greatest man who ever lived, urged the children of
Israel in a time of prosperity to “Make certain that
you do no forget the Lord your God….When you have all
you want to eat and have built good houses to live in
and when your cattle and sheep, your silver and gold,
and all your other possessions have increased, BE SURE
that you do not become proud and forget the Lord your
God”. (Deuteronomy 8:11-14a,TEV)

May God forgive America, and dare I say, many
Christians, and may He grant that we will confess our
sin and seek forgiveness before it is too late. This
is my prayer in the midst of our prosperity.

I am enjoying, and with His help, remembering. Are
You?

your friend and Pastor, John
