February 2002
"I think that is what Jesus would want me to do." I believe you would agree.
The service station where I was filling up with gasoline had a problem with the pumps used to pump regular unleaded fuel.
There was a written notice on each of the pumps that the higher grade fuel was $1.15, the price of regular
unleaded.
An adult young man, driving a pick-up, drove in to purchase gasoline as I was filling up.
Seeing the signs, he walked in to the cash register area and spoke to the cashier. He accused her of selling the higher grade of
gasoline for the price of the lower grade so that there would be more people buying the higher grade.
Even though the cashier told him of the problem, he did not believe the explanation. As he drove off, without making a
purchase, the cashier was upset because "he questioned my integrity."
I was by again to fill up with gasoline and asked the same cashier about the young man.
(The pump problem had been repaired) Had he been back? Yes, he had. She stated that he apologized and said "I think that is
what Jesus would want me to do."
How courageous! And what a difference in the way these kinds of scenarios usually evolve. I have never seen the young man
again. Since this event took place in a small community (Athens), I trust the day will come when that young man and I can
meet.
This young man's action is Christianity in reality (not religion). There are those in our modem day whose lives have been
changed because of what Jesus does for us when we are truly followers of Him (Jesus).
Though you and I may never be privileged to meet this young man, what he did leaves for us a testimony of true Christian
character .
Maybe the Jesus he is following is reminding you of something Jesus would have you to do. When Jesus was here on earth, He
reminded us that "by their fruits, you shall know them"( Christians ) .
How does your fruit look to the world where you live?
your friend and Pastor, John
