WHAT ‘I SAW’
Are you sure that you saw everything or maybe only part of what there was to see and know?
Ellie and I drove into this service station to fill her car with gas. It was a cold day in January. She pumped the gas while I stayed seated in the car. In front of us was a stranger filling his pick-up. I saw him look at me a few times.
While I don’t know what he was thinking, I know what he saw. A man with a white shirt, tie and suit coat comfortably seated in the car while his wife was out in the cold pumping the gas. Hardly normal the way life should be. The reverse should have been true.
What he did, or did not do, with what he saw, I will never know. If he went only on what he saw, he could be sharing only part of what was reality. Little did he know that the man seated in the car, while his wife was out in the cold, was only part of what was reality.
Had he known all of the facts his verbalization of what he saw would be quite different. He could not see that the man seated in the warm car had only part of his right leg. Consequently what he saw was only part of the truth.
How many times have people been damaged by "partial" reports of what "I saw". Of all people Christians should always be positive that all of the facts are known about a person about whom they might be speaking. Christ’s Church has been severely wounded by people sharing only what "I saw".
Some of the severest words of Scripture speak about the tongue verbalizing what "the eye saw". It has been suggested that God was very wise when He created us with two eyes and one tongue.
We have only lived 1/12th of the year 2003, so let us ask God to help us make sure we report ALL there is to know before reporting only what "I saw".
Thank you, stranger in the pick-up, for a wonderful lesson in the Christian life.
your friend and Pastor, John
