A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER

Rev. John Moore

January 2002

Retro-design, I believe it is called. Chrysler, Ford and Volkswagen seem to be doing well, bringing back car designs of the past, with updated engineering. I haven't read or heard of many being upset about auto makers projecting this change.

Maybe the Christian Church should consider doing some retro-music that is more that repetitive musical clichés. For example, how long since you've heard "Give Me That Old Time Religion" that was good enough for "my father," good enough for "my mother." "Makes me love everybody." Or "I was singing deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore, very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more." Then the chorus, "Love lifted me. . . when nothing else could help, Love lifted me!" The point is that it is possible to take from the old and make it new. Whether it be in the Church or in the secular world.

What got me to thinking about these things is that we are closing the fIrst year of the 21 st Century . (I know, it depends on how one calculates) and entering year two (or one!) of the new century. What this means is that we look back and we look forward.

There were some wonderfully good things and some terribly bad things that happened last year . September 11 is burned forever in the minds of all. But heroism almost became commonplace. That was good, hurt though it does to say it.

Hopefully you will accept into your life the words of Scripture for your 2002 year motto, "Behold, I make all things new ." God grant it be so for you and me.

your friend and Pastor, John
