A Moment With Our Minister

"BE AN EXCITED PERSON"

Something new usually creates excitement. I found that to be true the other evening.

One of my doctor friends just purchased a new car. Since she has never had a convertible before, and always wanted one, she was excited. Some of us looked at the car out the window of the building where we were gathered for a meeting. One of those who went out to look at the car gave us a "thumbs up" sign.

A pastor friend of mine, serving in Kansas City, Missouri, was able to purchase a new car. The problems experienced by driving older cars was now over. Over, until he took his family on their first trip in the new car. Not far out of town, they had a flat tire. New, or used, one can experience problems with a car.

The Point? What in life brings excitement to you? I'm excited that a non-government supported "first" has taken place. We now know that NASA is not necessary for us to fly beyond the pull of gravity. With all due respect to NASA.

Jesus wants us to be excited persons and not only about "things". In that context, Jesus came to get us excited about how He would supply those needs which don't relate to "things", which are temporary and "pass away".

Have you ever experienced His supply of needs in your life? The lack of love from husband, wife, child, friend? Being disappointed in a family member or one whom you were sure was your friend? The loss of a loved one or a friend?

These are the parts of life where "things" fail to satisfy. Money, and what it can buy, falls short in these kinds of needs. God has promised to supply "all of our needs, according to His riches in Christ Jesus". Isn't that exciting? I'm convinced it is.

The new car will get old. The thrill of having a convertible will fade. Neither can bring the kind of excitement and fulfillment that comes when Christ is in our hearts and lives. For what He does for us is always new, and exciting!

your friend and Pastor, John
