A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER Yesterday I had breakfast with a friend. Before eating, we had prayer. He prayed. His prayer was very meaningful and I told him so. Following breakfast, our Church golf league was to play. We play each Monday morning. My friend and I met to discuss the up coming high school Youth Camp where he and I are to be counselors. A few years ago, we were counselora at a junior high camp. I was privileged to recruit Victor (a pseudo name) for the Camp this summer. I spoke to Victor about the meaningfulness of his prayer. Part of his prayer had to do with the activity following breakfast. And that is the part I would like to tell you about. Victor specifically prayed that I would have a good time and a good golf game. This part of his prayer was not prayed in a flippant kind of way. And it was answered! I played with one of the two best golfers in our league. The game went well. At the end, the score reflected, for me, a very excellent game. In the beginning of the four years our league has played together, I have never before come this close to his score. The result: him, 44 with 18 putts; me, 46 with 14 putts. (many games scores 44 or less). Now, do you really believe God was interested in the golf game, yesterday? I do. God is interested in every part of Christians’ lives. When we ask God, out of a sincere heart in prayer, He will and does hear and answer. Our problem is not that He isn’t interested. The problem is that we don’t ask, from our heart. I haven’t had a chance to let Victor know about this answer to his prayer, but plan to thank him in writing. Hopefully he will not be surprised, and will be encouraged to pray in the mode he prayed, before our breakfast. What in your (and my) life have we wanted God to answer, change? If God is the Christian’s Father, and He is, don’t you think He is interested in EVERY aspect of our lives? Just like a good earthly father. How different our life in the Church, and individually, could be if only we prayed about those things which the average person considers mundane and unimportant. Thank you, friend, Victor, I trust I will keep this lesson about prayer learned. your friend and Pastor, John
