A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER
Before graduation, something significant happened.
I was privileged to attend., this May., the graduation of my older grandson. The graduation ceremony was held in an adjoining community., Boulder., Colorado, from where he lives in Colorado. Prior to graduation, he attended a special banquet.
In many ways, it was like other banquets with attendees dressed in their best., excellent food and a special speaker. But in one specific way., it was different And that's what made it special.
The young people and parent (s) agreed to sign a covenant The covenant was purity. Abstinence from immorality. The young people agreed to save physical intimacy for marriage. Young women and young men committed to being a virgin.
I was told of one Pastor who signed such a covenant between himself and his wife. He then asked the members of his Church to sign the same covenant.
Of Course this banquet did not make the news. No secular camera persons were sent to cover the event No editor or publisher of any newspaper commissioned a newsperson to Cover the event How could such an event make prime news television ? Or command screaming newspaper headlines?
However., a Greater than the television or news media was aware of this event And that is what is important Have we forgotten part of the greatest sermon ever preached by the greatest Preacher who ever lived? "You have heard that it was said., 'You shall not commit adultery'. But I say to you that everyone who looks at a Woman with lust ("the feeling of an intense desire '1
has already committed adultery with her in his heart". (Matthew 5:27; 28 New Revised Standard Version).
Every year., May and June are "opportunity" months for multiplied thousands of high school graduates. I trust you will join me in thanking God for the many thousands of high school graduates who are willing to place their signatures on purity covenants. May their number multiply is my prayer.
It is a privilege each year to honor ALL graduates. I am so grateful that it is my privilege each year to honor each of our graduates and to hold a high
standard for education. There is, in this day, only the rarest circumstance to keep our young people from an education. Thank God this is a fact.
Congratulations, graduates. I urge each of you to find God's will for your life and pursue it with all of your strength. You will reap rewards the rest of
your life. GOD BLESS YOU!
your friend and Pastor, John
