One of the friends every graduate has is, usually, a full-size book called a "dictionary". Hopefully it is a reference piece you will
continue to use all of your life. I know that I haven't graduated " from this important book.
While a dictionary is a familiar book, I decided to would be a worthwhile investment of time to have a consultation with this
book. Indeed it was a good investment of time.
GRADUATE. "One who has received an academic degree, a diploma or a certificate".
"To quality in a particular field or for a particular position".
For those of younger years who are still quite a distance from receiving a diploma, you are also included. And this was very
encouraging to me. "To move up to the next school grade". So, to an of my grade school friends, you are also graduating. And
we congratulate you! !
In Virginia, this very week, a man in his mid-eighties, also was part of a High School graduating class. He grew up in poverty .
He was so poor that when he was in school he had to "borrow" paper, pencils and necessary items to do his school work. This
became such an embarrassment to him that he said, "I'm out of here".
He and a lovely young lady were later married. They raised a wonderful, loving family.
Through hard work, learning from others and determination, his family was well cared for. His children received educations as a
result.
Though he had a deep desire to graduate from High School, it never happened. Until this week. His wish to graduate became
known by a program funded to help worthwhile persons get their wish. I watched on the CBS news segment as this gentleman
was presented a certificate of High School graduation. The Principal made the presentation on the platform with the 2002 High
School class standing behind him and one of his daughters beside him. What a sight! Well deserved.
Graduates, I urge you to read regularly, and keep with you all of your life, a Book about life. It is also a map for life. There are
principals within it, that practiced, daily, guarantee you a wonderful, fulfilling life. That book, the BIBLE.
If you follow it's directions and make them a part of your personal life, one day you will graduate from this life to that eternal life
known as Heaven. I want to be with you as we graduate. By God's grace, we will hear the words of God who is preparing
Heaven, say to an of the graduates, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of your Lord."
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
your friend and Pastor, John
