June 98
3:00 a.m. A knock at the bedroom door. "Daddy, I forgot what your kiss felt like". She wanted a
"fresh" kiss. A pastor colleague and friend told of this account about his daughter. What a
touching, loving insight into the life of a loving caring father and his four year old daughter.
Sunday, June 21, is "Father's Day" in America Times have drastically changed in our beloved
Nation. Headlines scream the stories of fathers who have abused, neglected, deserted,
permanently dominantly, their children. Thank God this is not all fathers, some of the news
media notwithstanding.
Please don't think me so naive that I am not aware that in God's great Church there are fathers
quity of terribly treating their children. Facts and statistics substantiate that they in the
minority, however.
Our source for the model father is to be found in the Holy Scriptures and the Christian Church.
What about the verse, like as a father pitted his children, so the Lord pities those who are His".
What an image of a Christian father! Or this excellent advice, "And, you fathers, Provoke not
your children to wrath (or exasperate them); instead, bring them up in training and instruction of
the Lord. "Raising a family without God is like trying trying to run an engine without fuel.
One of the heart wrenching statistic relating to family in America is that beaten 1 and 2 million
children will grow up in a single parent family. Talk about a mission field!
Take heart Christian fathers, there is a lot of help in the Christian faith environment. More so than
ever before is an abundance of help, counsel and sound advice. Hopefully you will be wise enough
to take advantage and profit therefrom.
I will not be able to visit with you via a written article until the month of August or September.
I look forward to that time together. In the meantime, God watch between you and me as we travel
this summer's road. May God's richest and best be yours is my prayer.
your friend and pastor, John.
