A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER

Rev. John Moore

"G.A.D."

As you can imagine, I have spent a lot of time praying and meditating since the amputation of my right leg (above the knee). I feel God has helped me come up with a principal that may help you, and myself. This principal of life that I practice, with God's help, is in the form advertisers use in marketing a product. In other words, it is in the form of an "acronym". Here it is:

GAD

GOD
- Living in a Christian home and coming to Christ, for the first time at the age of 5, I do not know how to live without God being part of my life. Having this kind of background makes me no better in the eyes of God, than a person raised in a home where the only time God's name was used was in vain - swearing.

Space does not permit the listing of all God means to the Christian. "Our refuge", "Our strength", "Our help", "Our Father", "Our comfort". God sent His Son, Jesus, to be our Redeemer. He lived with us for 33 years. When Jesus ascended to heaven to be with His Father, Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to be our guide and to help us better understand Jesus.

ATTITUDE - God helps the Christian with this business of attitude. In our modern day, attitude has an interesting meaning. Has it ever been said of you, "He/she has an 'attitude'"? If you don't understand, ask a teenager whom you know.

The dictionary has an interesting definition of attitude. "Disposition", "opinion", "mental set". When one is a Christian, one's attitude is different from a non-Christian. God helps a Christian to have a positive attitude when all else is negative.

DETERMINATION - This speaks to me about not being "wishy-washy". That reliable book, the dictionary, says about determination, "The quality of being resolute" (unwavering); "firmness of purpose"; "a firm intention".

Determination speaks about being disciplined. In our world of "do it if it feels good", this certainly does not lead one to be determined. Determination talks about one of the qualities of being a leader, an example, Yes, even in our modern world.

Jesus never promised that the path of life, and experiences of being a follower of Christ, would be a smooth path or a crowded way. One of the words He used was "cross". And Jesus told us that each of us would have a cross. Furthermore, He said that we were to take up our cross daily, and follow Him.

God being my helper, I plan to live out the "GAD" principal. I challenge each of you to join me, as we live each day, until Jesus comes again. God. Attitude. Determination. "GAD".

your friend and Pastor, John
