There is a three letter word that is being used often in our day. I have heard it often used. But it has come to my attention, in a couple of different ways, in the past few days. On a busy older U S highway leading into the city of Coldwater is a place of business with a portable marquis is front that has an interesting advertisement with these three words: “We sell fun”. I stopped in the other day to ask what it was that the company sold for fun. “Everything in here” said the salesperson, with a sweeping gesture of arms, travel vehicles, including motor homes and travel trailers, with all of the accessories. Ellie and I were returning from Ann Arbor driving west on I-94. I passed a pick-up which had a bumper sticker that caught my attention. It related to the marquis. "If it isn’t fun, why are you doing it?” The driver was not a teen-ager but a mature adult. I was not able to, but very much wanted to, get the attention of the driver and have the opportunity to ask for the person’s translation of “fun”. I remain disappointed not being able to have had that opportunity. “Fun” is not a Bible word. So I consulted another valuable book to check out this word. Very interesting the enlightment shed by the dictionary. “Fun” (used as a noun), has the beginning meaning of “fool, foolish, to be foolish”. The word in the Scriptures for “fun” is “pleasure”. “Pleasure” in the Scriptures, has positive and negative meaning. “Fun” can also be defined with the word “pleasure”. I like to have “fun”. It is my opinion that those who have the most “fun” in life are Christians. However, you cannot buy genuine “fun” (pleasure). My experience is that living the Christian life, doing God’s will, is both pleasure and “fun”. Hopefully you find that to be true. The Scriptures tell us that “at His right hand are pleasures (“fun”)forevermore”. These kinds of pleasures are not for sale. They are a gift which comes from serving Him Who came to give us “life and life more abundantly”.your friend and Pastor, John
