A Moment With Our Minister
"WEEP AND YOU WEEP ALONE.
LAUGH, AND THE WORLD LAUGHS WITH YOU."
While this quote (and I don't know the author) is not from the
Scripture, it is a truth we often forget. This philosophy determines the kind of world we will live in.
Tuesday, October 1st, in the early morning, I was struck by a semi
tractor-trailer. There was a light fog. I had an 8:00 a.m. meeting
with the pastors of our area. Union City Rotary was at noon. I was just
finishing a two mile run when the accident happened. From that point
forward I have had to be told what happened. The goodness of God?
My purpose is not to share the details, and there are many interesting
ones, but to say that where I am, at the time of this writing, is
nothing short of a miracle of our Creator-God.
Able to walk without assistance other than the computerized "C" leg.
Able to drive a car and ride without pain.
Able to be a full-time Pastor and beyond. How exciting!
Able to take a shower every morning unassisted, including finishing
every shower with open valve cold water.
Able to dress without help (for whatever occasion).
Able to get a full night of sleep and rest.
Able to talk with God and let him know exactly how I feel, including
the flowing of tears.
Able to stand and look a person(s) in the eye during a conversation.
Able to not be on a diet.
Able to not be on medication, except one pill every other night.
Able to have the friends I had before the accident. This may seem
trivial to you, but for those of us who have been through a physically
traumatic experience which left us crippled or minus body parts, it is VERY
meaningful.
Able to have the same memory ability, now, as before the accident.
Able to see and hear, as before the accident.
Able to play golf. I had an "eagle" when golfing with my older son,
Paul (from Birmingham, AL), Memorial Day evening in Battle Creek.
There are others I could write about. This is part of the list.
To ALL who prayed one, or many, prayers for me, to ALL who called or
wrote or inquired, for ALL of the many kindnesses extended to me, past or
present, THANK YOU! THANK YOU, Union City United Methodist Church for the
multiplied kindnesses to me. To the West Michigan Conference, Albion District, and Superintendent, Dr. Richard Morrison, THANK YOU.
Please keep praying for me that I will not forget to "laugh" and have
you "laugh" with me.
your friend and Pastor, John
