TRAGIC

Rev. John Moore

September 11, 2001

Tuesday, is a day the world will not forget. Words can never match emotions experienced by the dastardly, cowardly, devilish crimes of burning and killing innocent, helpless persons, just like you and me.

Life has a greater depth of meaning now than before that tragic day. "Are you all right?" has probably been asked more times after that New York City/Washington, D. C./ Pennsylvania tragedy than ever before. I join thousands of other parents in thanksgiving to God for His safety over younger son, Stephen. His office is on story 41 of a 42 story building. He and his colleagues shuddered at how close the second airplane flew to their building. They were evacuated to the street, down 41 flights of stairs. There they encountered the horrible aftermath: dust, smoke, fighting for breath as they ran for their lives, heads covered, coughing, crying, to a boat docked in the near Hudson River. They were taken to the New Jersey side, where they remained for 7 hours, but not before experiencing seeing huge windows, falling outward and people jumping out of the World Trade Center towers.

Stephen's friend, Shawn, worked on floor 93 of the Towers. Shawn's life is sealed in death in the remaining ruble. Please join in prayer for Shawn's family and for healing emotions for Stephen. Words of the Prophet Jeremiah come to mind, "The heart is deceitful above all things and DESPERATELY WICKED (my caps), who can know it (the heart)? Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV).

Also, the writer of Proverbs, "Do not .....desire to be with the wicked; for their minds (hearts) study destruction (violence) and their lips talk of mischief (cruelty). "

Let us never forget the words of Psalm 46:1,2: "God is our refuge and strength,. a very present (proven) help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear...."

your friend and Pastor, John
