September 2002
A Moment With Our Minister
"GOING BACK"
We are on the doorstep of Fall. Summer is almost over and "going back"
is a reality. Students will be facing the reality of the classroom, at
whatever level of their education. Summer breaks are over until next
year. Family vacations are also over. The freedom that leisure time
brings has come to an end. The kind of relaxed summer schedules are
history. Most of us must "go back".
"Going back" affects many of us in Worship time. The first Sunday after
Labor Day, we "go back" to Worship time at 11:00 a.m.
For the first time in over 50 years we "go back" to the fact that our
beloved nation is at war. Septem-ber 11, 2001, has changed our lives
forever. Facing the fact that we do not know who or where our enemy
is, makes for changes we don't feel comfort-able with. We do not want to
"go back" to the kind of life war brings to us.
However, September 11 has made more significant the foundation stones
that created America. "Going back" to re-examine our foundation reminds
us of the value of freedom and the gift given us by our founding fathers
and mothers. Freedom of worship and freedom of speech are tremendous
gifts. We dare not treat them lightly.
September 11 has helped us to "go back" to the Holy Scriptures. The Holy
Bible gives us safe di-rections for the journey of life. Jesus told us
that He is "the way, the truth and the life". Following Him, we will
have safe guidance for this life on earth and a safe entrance into
heaven.
If you need to, and you are the one responsible to know, "go back".
Hopefully you won't hesitate to "go back". Confess your sins, repent and
invite Christ into your life.
Testimonies of the centuries assure us that no one has ever been sorry
for "going back" to Jesus.
Have a great journey as you "go back".
your friend and Pastor, John
