A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER

Rev. John Moore

September 2003

6, 8, 10 AND 12. 1, 3, 5 AND 7 AND A 'WEINER' DOG

I was in the Church secretary's office when company came to see me. How would you feel if a 6, 8, 10 and 12 year old made a special trip to see you?

Not because they were part of your family or relatives, but just dropped by to "see you".

That is what Olivia, age 6, brother, Seth, age 8, cousin, Kaleb, age 10, and Kristie (sister), age 12, did for me. They are in grades 1, 3, 5 and 7. I feel honored that these children would pay this kind of tribute to an adult. As a mature adult what is there about me that would cause this to happen? I am grateful to be Kristie and Kaleb's pastor. They brought their cousins along so I could meet them.

We had an enjoyable time together. The secretary's office lent itself to our visit because of a long ledge to sit on and about seat high. Kaleb liked the "air" Nikes I was wearing, black in color. Kristie said she plans to be a veterinarian (we have a husband and wife veterinarians in our Church - excellent role models).

Another surprise arrived in the mail. The mail receipt relates to the surprise visit. Alison is 14 and in grade 9. She sent me a colored picture card of "The Capitol", Williamsburg, Virginia, "constructed between 1701 and 1705, hoisted the British flag until the American Revolution". Alison and her family were on vacation to Gettysburg, Washington, D.C., and the mountains in the Carolinas. I am grateful to be pastor of Alison and her family.

Jesus was always a friend to younger and older children. I feel honored to be a member of the family of pastors who have been richly blessed by the love and thoughtfulness shown of children from their congregations.

Sisters and brothers, we are the mentors for all of our children. God grant us the wisdom and help we need to not fail these invaluable treasures.

From my heart, THANK YOU, boys and girls. Your kindnesses will be remembered the rest of my life. God bless you and your great parents.

your friend and Pastor, John
