"SPRING BRINGS NEW LIFE"
Even though the air is still brisk, spring is in the air and certainly on the calendar. The days are growing longer; the sun is beginning to make a visible appearance more and more often, (to the delight of those who suffer depression without it). You can sense the change of season in the core of your very being.
As we enter the month of April our anticipation grows with the coming of warmer weather and April showers that will bring forth May flowers. I love spring. I love the anticipation and hope that this season brings. I love how spring lifts the spirit as we move from the cold deadness of winter into spring’s promise of new life and new beginnings. Spring is one of nature’s reminders of the goodness of God. For me and for many of you, spring is also a reminder of the newness God creates in us through Jesus Christ. It is a sign of God’s miracle of rebirth.
This year, Holy Week and Easter fall in this wonderful month of April. We are reminded during this time of just how great God’s love is for us. How, even our failures, both individually and as the church, God offers us newness – a clean slate – a fresh start through the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Jesus willingly gave of himself to the point of death that we could be restored to the fullness of our creation and live in complete restoration of our relationship with God our creator. All we have to do is to accept the gift that is offered through Jesus Christ and find the newness of life that comes from a sincere and committed relationship with him as our Lord and Master. There is nothing insignificant about it. Comparing our old lives to our lives in Christ is like comparing sand to diamonds. Nothing in this world compares, or could ever compare, to what we have in Jesus Christ.
So, brothers and sisters, as we journey though spring and experience the hope, joy and anticipation that it brings, let it be a reminder to us of the hope and joy and anticipation that we find in Jesus Christ. During this coming Easter season and every Easter season, let us never forget the incredible price that God paid through His Son for us to truly be His children. Let us live each and every day with the reality of that love foremost on our minds in all that we do.
Let us rejoice in God’s love for us and may we share that love with everyone we meet. Let others genuinely see Jesus Christ in us! AMEN.
Have a happy and blessed Easter.
Grace and Peace, The Rev. Rob Hughes
