FROM THE "INCOMING" PASTOR
Greetings from Wilmore, Kentucky, in the name of our Lord and Savior,
Jesus
Christ.
Classes are now finished and as I write this, graduation is just a few
days
away. We are now in the process of transitioning from what has been our
home
for the last four years to a new life of ministry with all of you. This
has
been a busy time, but I wanted to take a moment to introduce my family
and
me to you.
My wife, Becky, and I are both from the Battle Creek area and have
lived
there most of our lives. We have been married for 14 years and have
three
older daughters between us and a thirteen year old son who is with us
here
in Kentucky. Our son, Robert, has become something of a "man of the
world"
after spending about a third of his life in Kentucky, but he is very
anxious
to return back to his home state of Michigan, as we all are.
I am a graduate of Kellogg Community College with an Associate Degree
in
Business Administration, Spring Arbor University with a Bachelor of
Arts in
Family Life Education, and as you read this, Asbury Theological
Seminary
with a Masters of Divinity.
Prior to our move to Kentucky, Becky and I were both employed at the
Battle
Creek Federal Center where she worked as a customer service
representative
and I was a computer systems specialist. I retired from the Michigan
Air
National Guard last August after 24 years of service as a Medic and I
have
spent the last year and a half working as a part time Chaplain at
Central
Baptist Hospital.
While here at seminary, I have developed a passion for our Wesleyan
doctrinal heritage and what that means for us as Christians in our
journey
of discipleship and progress towards Christ likeness. I hold Scripture
to
be the primary source of God's revelation and guidance for our lives. I
also
have a passion for developing our Christian relationships beyond
denominational lines within the Christian community. As John Wesley
said;
"If your heart is as mine then give me your hand." We are all in the
business of doing the work of Christ, and we can do that much more
effectively when we all work together as one body of Christ; the Church
Universal.
I am excited about the work and programs that you all have been doing
and
all that Pastor Moore has done over the last several years. I am
honored to
have been selected to be your pastor, and my family and I are looking
forward to getting to know each and every one of you and working side
by
side in the advancement of the Kingdom of God
God Bless you all,
The Rev. Rob Hughes
