Constitution for the University of Dayton Lambda Legal Student Association

Article 1
§1 The name of the student organization shall be called the University of Dayton Lambda Legal Student Association.  Hereinafter, this organization shall be referred as Lambda.

§2 The purpose of this student organization is to further rights, provide support and create dialogue within the School of Law, the University of Dayton and the community as a whole for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons.

§3 This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, sex, age, handicap, or veteran status.

Article 2

§1 Voting membership is open to current students of the University of Dayton School of Law who is current with membership dues.

§2 Attendance and participation are open to alumni, faculty, staff and current students of the University of Dayton.

§3 Limited attendance and participation are available to anyone interested in the goals of Lambda by a majority vote of the voting members.

Article 3
§1 This organization shall be led by co-chairs.  Additional offices, such as Secretary shall be created and filled when determined necessary by the voting body.

§2 Leadership of this organization shall be determined by a majority vote the previous April of each academic year.

§3 The meeting at which the vote will take place shall be announced no later than two weeks before it is to take place.

Article 4
The advisor for Lambda must be a full-time member of the University faculty or Administrative & Professional Staff, although it is preferable that the Lambda advisor be a faculty member of the School of Law.  The advisor is expected to participate in Lambda functions and provide general support as needed.

Article 5
The voting body each year shall determine the necessary frequency of meetings, but in no case shall the organization meet less than twice in an academic semester.

Article 6
Membership dues are to be determined in April of the previous academic year, by a majority of voting members present. 

Article 7
Proposed amendments to this constitution shall be submitted in writing to the Co-Chairs of Lambda.  These proposals shall be read during a general meeting of Lambda or transmitted to membership prior to vote.  The amendment shall be passed if voted for by two-thirds majority of the organization, at the following meeting.
