"To do things of the worst nature--things of which we scarcely dare speak--is also heroic." - Nietzsche |

I agree. It is strange that some of the most horrible things, stuff we would not mention--or even think--of doing are--in certain circumstances--considered heroic. Why is tha? How come our heros, the people we look up to and want to be like, are accepted for doing things that would normally be against the law? There is no explaination. I believe the greatest war hero of the recent past is Sergeant Alvin C. York. He did not even want to go to war because of all the killing. He was forced to go to action and as a result he ended up killing about twenty German soldiers, which led to capturing over 130, and becoming a wonderfully remembered hero. Adolf Hitler, though many disagree, was thought of as a gero by some. He mudered thousands of innocent people and many Germans thought he was megnificent. There are many, many others that fit this description--like George Washington and Andrew Jackson. We as humans should make up our minds on what is right and what is wrong. Since this is something that has been going on for thousands of years, I guess there is no solution. |
