"Forgiveness is a condition of knowing what is owed." - P. H. |

I somewhat disagree. Do not get me wrong! I am very strong for forgiveness, but I do not believe that anyone owes it. I am a person who is extremely forgiving even though I do not necessarily feel that I have an obligation to give it. When a person wrongs you he or she takes something from you. Why should you need to give him or her something more? Please, do not misinterpret what I am saying. In a way, I am pulled the other direction. If Jesus can forgive us for everything we have done to him, then why should we not be able to forgive others for what they have done to us? Then again, Jesus did not have to forgive us. He did it because he loves us. So I believe that forgiveness should come out of pure love, not out of pure bond. - Diana |

I agree, in part. Nobody owes anybody else forgiveness. What the quote might also mean is that, in order for you to forgive someont for something, you need ot know what that person owes you. What is the debt, real or emotional, that is owed. So, the quote functions best if viewed from the perspective of the one who will do the forgiving. - P. H. | |||||||||||||||
