St. Valentine's Day
There are varying opinions as to the origin of Valentine's Day.  Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the  jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that St. Valentine served as a priest at teh temple during the reign of Emperor Cladius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D., Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honor St. Valentine.

Zeppo Marx
On this day at the beginning of the last century, this cutie was born.  He was the fifth Marx brother (well, he can be considered 4th or 6th, depending on how technical you want to get). He was the straight man. For those of you who don't know, a straight man is the one who isn't neccissarily funny and sets up the jokes for the comedians. He started because he had to replace his older brother Gummo who was drafted for the first World War. He also played the love interest when neccissary. Soon after the Brothers moved to Hollywood to make the last three movies for Paramount, Zeppo started a talent agency with the Marx Brothers as his first clients; and then convinced Gummo to join in on the action. He informed his brothers that he was leaving the act as soon as their contract with Paramount was up. The agency became the most successful save for the big time agencies. He sold it for a figure in the millions and renewed his first love as an inventer. He invented something for airplanes and made a heafty profit. The then went into bredding horses which he knew nothing about, but that didn't matter because he made a lot of money that way too. And just when you thought it couldn't get better, he went into the grapfruit business (which he knew even less about than bredding horses) and became very successful at that as well. He never liked show business. I guess it was a good thing he got out of it when he did.

Sean Astin
You might remember him best from the Goonies if you've been living in a cave since 2000.  This child actor come adult has just finished his most memorable role yet as the lovable Samwise Gamgie of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  He is also a successful movie maker.  You can even see one of his short films on the special features of the Two Towers.  Sean also starred in the greatest love story movie I've ever seen Boy Meets Girl.  I recommend it to any and everyone.  He is also the son of Patty Duke and John Astin.
