The Way We Were

But I would not be convicted

by a jury of my peers

Still crazy after all these years

Memories

Lots of stuff to remember about the Class of 66.  Some silly...some happy...some sad.

Class of 66 Picture Page

Class Motto: "We are not afraid of tomorrow, for we have seen yesterday, and love today." (Hey, don't blame me)

Class Flower: White Rose/ Yellow Rose? (I have reports of both)

Class Beer: Coors (unofficial)

Prom Theme: "The King and I"

Favorite TV Show/Movie: "Hogan's Heroes"

Biggest Rivalry: Mitchell, always  Mitchell. Football, Basketball, track, you name it, it was Mitchell we had to beat.

Class Song: None as near as anyone can determine.  Probably just as well since it undoubtedly would have been something sappy like "Climb Every Mountain," but what kind of a class doesn't have a song. So, by the powers vested in me as Webmaster I hear by select, as the official class song of the MHS Class of 1966, one of the greatest make-out songs ever written, "Midnight Hour" as performed by the incomparable Wilson Pickett.( Lyrics Here) More fun has been had in back seats of Chevy's  while this song played  on KOMA, than any other I can think of. ( I hadn't listened to KOMA since 1980 when they  went country. I  am pleased to announce that they have returned to a " rock-'n-roll oldies" format,  and sound much the same as they did "back then". History of KOMA, AM 1520)

Best Spot for the aforementioned fun in the backseat of Chevy's, and consuming Class Beer: Acre's Draw or Lake Minatare

Best Spot  for dancing and Consuming Class Beer: Little Moon Lake  Does anyone remember the  great Club Ko-Kay, upstairs, Ave. B (or A?). Dances at the  Scottsbluff Armory and at Playland on the Scottsbluff-Gering Highway.

Favorite Band to dance to: The Drivin' Dynamics (History and Pictures of  "The Drivin' Dynamics" ) Other great bands many of you might remember  from dances in our area, The Fabulous Flippers, The Blue Things , Spider and the Crabs

Favorite Drive Inn: A & W of course, although Scotty's comes to mind as well (15cent gut-bombs).

Favorite place to shoot some snooker: Rustic Tavern or Schaafs

Best Place for a Drag race: The River Bridge

Best Place spend a Summer  afternoon: King's Sand Pit, # 10,  Dirt Hill,  Lake Minatare

Best place to meet girls/guys: Broadway, Scottsbluff

Best Town Cop: John Watson

Best place for early A.M. breakfast: Truck Stop Cafe

Best Short Road Trip: Fort Collins or Peetz, CO

Best place to meet friends from Mitchell for purposes of consuming Class Beer: Hot Rod Hill

Vicki's nomination for class song: The Lion Sleeps Tonight (A-Weema-Weh) by the Tokens.  (Lyrics here)

Best Place for a Movie: A couple of possibilities here but probably NOT the Delmar. How about the Midwest or even the Nile in Mitchell? Did anyone  actually go to Terry's Drive Inn and watch the movies?

Best Local Radio:  Mel Sauer's Teen Beat on KOLT

Your nomination for class song:

More to come, including some pics...Suggestions/nominations/pictures/disagreements  gratefully accepted.
