Trappers deal
Jonsson to Butchers
In their first deal after the
season, the Trappers dealt away Swedish center Jörgen Jönsson.
Jörgen was about to crack the line-up and therefore it's sad to see
him leave and not finish what he was building up. Coming to Tilburg
are Finnish winger Ville Nieminen and a 5th rnd pick in next year's
draft.
Ville Nieminen is a Tikanen like
winger. He has good skating, but his best attribute is annoying other
players of the opponent's top line. With the lack of depth at wing
Nieminen has a fair shot at a quick debut in the UHL.
The Tilburg Trappers commented as
followed:
"In Nieminen we not only acquire
a great hockey player, but we also acquire a great person who brings a
smile to everyone's face in our organization and he brings in the
necessary gritt that we're missing at the moment. He's the type of
player every team needs to have. It's hard to win cups without such
players. Being stuck in the minors at the Butchers, Ville was glad to
try his luck here. We gave up a very talented player in Jörgen
Jönsson though. When we acuired Jönsson, we had high hopes for him,
but he could not live up to his expectations last year and although we
know a debut seaosn is always tough in the UHL and next season would
be easier for him, we felt he wasn't feeling happy here. He was more
and more thinking of returning to Sweden as soon as his cotnract would
run out. From what we understand he'll try his new environment and
will then return to Sweden when his contract ends. His agent told us
his family couldn't really settle and were anxious to go back. We will
certainly miss Jörgen around here, but if he returns to Sweden the
league also loses a very talented player."
