Tilburg Trappers
newsflash
Quite some roster changes were
noted this week.
First off there was the signing of
Dave Duerden on Free Agency. Duerden a left winger is expected to
battle for a spot in the near future on the pro team. The Trappers
lacked depth there and therfore acquiring a solid prospect in Duerden
seems like a good move. He's turning up in age though that could be a
disadvantage.
Then also this week the Trappers were
able to sign both their remaining UFA's. Picard signed a new 2 year
contract worth 400k. Picard who was very imprssive in last seaosn's
trainings camp disppointed throughout the season. He knows the
Trappers are eyeing for more youth at forward position and he should
be aware his pro team spot could be in jeopardy. He now has to impress
the management or he could end up in the minors for the end of his
career.
Also Craig Billington sgined a new
contract worth 1 million a seaon. The two year contratc almost assures
Billington will end his career in Tilburg. Despite a disappointing
season, the Trappers decided to re-sign him hoping he'd bounce back.
He'll know his role as backup of Mike Dunham. Nevertheless with the
Waiver Draft coming up, and the Trappers have a tradition to keep up
there as they took a goalie every time, Billington can't be 100% sure
of playing in Tilburg next season.

Finally the Trappers signed another
prospect to add to their list. Young Finnish winger Timo Vertala was
signed on Free Agency. Vertala brings some more depth at forward
positions for the Trappers and has a solid upside. He has the potential to become a strong
third line player who excels on the special teams and wide-open games
