University High School: Class of 1964
Ode To U High

We sat in a stadium that was not our own.
We wore red and white, and cheered our Cubs to the end zone.
Our band tried to march and still play in tune
And we kept up the hope that we would win soon.

Our classes were serious with one goal in mind
We were very well trained to make student teachers cry!
Smoking between classes in the girls' second floor bath
With lipstick on the stall doors and a cloud to the back.

Our gym teacher, the beauty star, taught us modern dance
But we hated it anyway in our poplin shirts and pants.
Then outside we traveled to the lower playground
Where Nancy Maxwell always won hands down.

Bob Bell chased the teacher down to the teacher's lounge.
During lunch break in the basement was where he could be found.
Other kids would be smoking out by the flagpole
And buying their snacks from the old Campus Store.

Avoiding a question in our Latin class,
We tried to hide but it was a task.
We never knew to whom the question was directed
Since the cross-eyed gaze from Miss Gish was refracted.

We finally graduated at the new Student Center,
Leaving OLD teachers and friends to remember
That U High would always be the school at the top
And the kids from Snob Hill were a fantastic lot!
