1/ Champs Feedback

Hi Mark
Just read your news letter, found the bit about the headaches quite an interesting read.
Arthur has sent me a copy of the balance sheet for the champs!! Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On that note
I would like to say that all the stress and hard work paid off, a few injuries, but in a competition of that size it's to be expected. A busy but enjoyable day for me, it was nice to be made to feel a part of the TSD family. The level of competition was high as always at these events and it will certainly be a day to remember.
Thanks to you and all your efforts along with Arthur and Kieran I think we can safely say the day was a huge success and I look forward to September (I will do the sandwiches) and also to South Africa in 2005.
It was also very nice to see a lot of friends some of whom we had not seen since Greece, so good to see you all again.

Hi Mark,
On behalf of BelgiumTSD, I would like to send you our congratulations with your championship.
If you ever come to Belgium please give me a call.
Tang Soo!!!
Alain

Nice to hear from you my friend ........................................................................
Hello Mark,
I had a great time in London. The weather was perfect. I wish I could have spent more time in the company of the great Masters that were present. (We Masters should have had our own party) As far as the tournament goes - it could have been a lot better. I have talked to Master Sgro about it and hopefully everything can be sorted out in time for the South Africa Internationals. yours truly,
Howard

Many thanks for your input Master Daniels, we were left with a "go with the flow" or cancel situation. The championship will be deemed successful by all those that learn valuable lessons from it. All the trophy winners are happy from the feed back I have received so far. Now we have enough members to stage a world event, we now can look to producing a world class world event. I have a week training with Master Jacobsen and we will be making plans towards that goal for South Africa 2005.

Hi Mark,
The clubs from DTSD Bristol did quite well, i think around thirty or more 1st-3rd places were won throughout the day. (i was the first from our lot to win something!) My two students had a great day but unfortunately didn't come away with anything but they really loved being there and doing it. I made good friends with a load of the Dutch guys, great sports they were!
That's a point, ill make a cd with the pics and footage i took, and post it out to you next week if you want?
Speak to you soon

Hello Mark,
sorry for the late answer, but i wasn´t very often at the computer the last time. It was a great time for me in London. A very good Tournament. Because of the injuries i think it will run better next time and there wouldn´t be so much injured people. It was for me an felix a gret pleasure that we could come to the tournament. An for me it was a great pleasure, that i get the Appreciation Document from the Dragon Black Belt International an from Goodwill Tang Soo Do. Se you soon.
Cheers

Hi Mark,
Sorry about the late reply, I had to drive to Vermont for the weekend for a tournament.
The three of us had a wonderful time in England. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and all the masters whom we will now call friends. The level of competition was excellent, and the camaraderie too.
Cheers,
Garth ........................................................................
The 2nd IGTSDA world championship was a blast and i met some great people! the website is really good. Tang soo!!

If required 21st September?????????????????????????????
3/ Message from Master Eddie Jacobsen

I would like to thank the English association for hosting the 2003 World Championships, we appreciate all the hard work that you as a group put into the arrangements to make the tournament a success.

At any tournament it is impossible to please everyone, mainly due to the country representatives not communicating or meeting to finalise certain aspects which effect the participants prior to the tournament. I personally think that it is imperative that we as a group of Martial Artists place more emphasis on respecting each other and becoming more professional in our own actions, which will then assist the organisers of these important events in pleasing a larger number of people.

We in South Africa are looking forward to hosting the 2005 World Championships and I am sure, if all the Country representatives view this event with pride and we react professionally (we all proclaim to have great professional leadership ability), that the 2005 event will be able to take place without any incident and become a promotional tournament for all our individual groups.

Once again thank you England that we as a Country had the opportunity of touring and participating Internationally - TANG SOO!
4/ The advantages of forty winks

An hour's good quality sleep during the day may be as beneficial as a full night's sleep for learning and performance of tasks, according to US researchers.

In tests on volunteers, researchers from the University of Harvard found that those who were allowed to sleep for an hour or 90 minutes in the afternoon were better at learning and memory skills as the day wore on, compared with those who did not spend time having a nap.

All the volunteers were trained on a visual task that required them to quickly spot a target among distractors. The researchers then measured the volunteers' reactions and skill on the task after a number of different sleep periods. The sleepers' brainwaves were also monitored to gauge the quality of sleep they were getting.

The researchers found that those whose brains went through two different sleep phases - slow wave and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep - functioned particularly well, but even those who experienced only one of the sleep phases did better than the non-nappers.

Over a 24-hour period, those who had had a good quality sleep during their nap performed as well as volunteers in previous research who had been tested after two good nights' sleep.

The researchers conclude that napping for just one hour during the day can lead to improved performance and learning abilities.

The study is published in the journal Nature Neuroscience.
5/ Subtle energy research. (Top learning curve at the championships)

a/ Energetics of RAGE (This takes us past the fight/flight stress response and gives great strength. Take out the negative factors and we have the strength for self-defence applications "Controlled Rage". Also the ability to take the strength from an opponent.)

b/ Levels of iron shirt chi kung (Why were there so many injuries at the champs when the contact level was average? Master Eddie had the key with his self-defence technique that bruises an opponent like magic, I said that would make a great nerve point strike technique and he said he uses it for one point knockouts. The surrounding energy can make a great difference to any technique, as we proved at the energy seminar with over 100 people, and also the ability of the human body to take strikes. We can test out the iron shirt theory at the Master Class)

FULL MOON EFFECTS

The full moon affects many people everywhere causing emotional instability and insecurity. Ask any hospital worker and they will tell you that more accidents and personal assaults happen during the time of the full moon. Why this happens is a question worth considering. Its been told me that the gravitational force of the moon is strong enough to cause the ocean to rise (causing high tide) and therefore it is possibly changing the gravitational effect on our glands and organs which can affect our moods.
During the night the full moon counteracts the gravitational pull on us from the Earth, and during the day its complete absence overhead would allow the Earth's gravitation to have an unobstructed affect on us. This gravitational difference between mid-day and midnight is the greatest during the days of the full moon (and new moon when the moon is overhead during midday and absent during the night). It is one explanation for peoples more erratic behaviour during this time (and also during the new moon for some people).
Other additional effects include the different wavelengths of light coming from the moon, and the full moons affect on our inner pathogens. The light from the moon, as all can see, is of a different combination of wavelengths and strength of light than what the sun gives us. It has been known for many years that different colours of light cause different emotional reactions in us; Red = passion, Blue = calmness, Green = clarity of thought, etc. It could be that the moons silvery colour is at least partially responsible for some people's emotional instability. Also consider that all of us have inner pathogens (organisms that get their sustenance from inside of other organisms) including yeast, worms, protazoan parasites, virus, and bacteria. It could be that the day to night gravitational change causes a change in the activity of these pathogens such as possible increased activity which would increase their drain on our nutrient levels and increase the amount of metabolic by-products they excrete into our bloodstream (thereby making us more toxic).
Why the full moon affects some people more than others is also a good question. It's probably because either some have borderline glandular functions or because some have more pathogens. I personally believe that the most likely pathogen that contributes to the full moon effect is yeast (mostly in the intestines) of the species Candida Albicans. I believe this because too much yeast also causes a 'mooney' effect in people by causing them to feel 'overloaded' and 'stressed out' because of the loss of normal digestion and increased level of toxicity in the blood.

We have noticed that Tina has problems with her health during a full moon, at the time of the championships she was unable to walk but was fine the week before and even training in both Tang Soo Do and Yoga,

I just heard that the local school sports day had more injuries that our championships LOL the mum's and dad's races turn in to a nightmare. Marilyn from my yoga class says that her dogs always fight when there is a full moon.

c/ Another New energy vessel to increase perceived mass (Tested this out with Mr Griffith last Wednesday in class. We messed up Newton's 3 Law a treat. This should be a good demonstration for the Master Class)

d/ Most energy systems have a recreational side to them e.g. Yoga has the Karma Sutra (LOL) After looking at 2 different energy effects (Healing of Bruises and causing bruising through strikes) we now have a 3rd one, something a little bit special!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not the place to go in to details.
6/ "SARS contained"

The World Health Organization (WHO) says the global SARS epidemic has finally been contained, after the last affected area was removed from the local transmission list.

Taiwan was severely hit by the respiratory disease and had struggled to contain the virus. But WHO announced on Saturday (05/07/03) that it had been 20 days - twice the incubation period of the disease - since the last case of SARS was reported in the province.

WHO said the human chains of SARS virus transmission appeared to have been broken everywhere around the globe, but warned that the world was not "SARS free". Nearly 200 people remain ill in hospital and WHO warned that undetected cases could have slipped through its surveillance network.

Since its appearance five months ago, SARS has affected at least 8,439 people and claimed more than 800 lives. About 20 per cent of cases have been reported among health workers trying to treat the sick.

Travelling from its believed source in the Guangdong province of China, SARS spread to 30 countries around the world and was particularly prevalent in six.

But WHO warned that the disease continued to "threaten the world" and might return. The agency said SARS might be seasonal like other coronaviruses and reappear during a later part of the year, or that it might still be circulating in an as-yet unidentified animal reservoir.

Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, director-general of the WHO, said, "We do not mark the end of SARS today, but we observe a milestone: the global SARS outbreak has been contained.

"At this moment, we should all pause and give thanks to scientists, public health and hospital workers who took risks in the face of a new and unknown disease. And, we must remember those frontline workers who died of SARS. Their daily dedication, courage and vigilance averted a global catastrophe."
