1/ Champs Feedback

Hi Mark

Well done to you and everyone who helped organise this years Championship, for me I had a wonderful holiday in such amazing weather, although no trophies I learned a great deal from the event and met a great bunch of people - is that not what Martial Arts is supposed to give us :)

All through the criticism we are all developing and sometimes communication should be improved although OI regularly receive your emails - I thought the IGTSD website would have more information from the other entrants as to their needs etc.

It is important that we all work towards developing the Goodwill Association as it has a huge potential. The standard of competitors was amazing and it is a good kick in the ass to work harder. Certainly the 2005 bash in South Africa sounds pretty cool and hope to se everybody there if not before

Saturday's Master Class

I had the opportunity to attend the Master Class as a WHITE BELT and I must say that it was not quite what I expected, knowing there would be a number of senior Masters and Black Belts attending I thought I may be way out of my depth, however this was not the case, the exact opposite infact. Although due to my illness I was unable to take part in Master McCann's session I found it most interesting and did learn some really good self defence techniques. Master Eddie was most accommodating when it came to teaching his bong form, his explanation of the moves and techniques was fantastic and he even went out of his was to show me some alternative ways of doing the same technique if I found one difficult. Master Adlington and Master Jacobsen's NO-TOUCH KNOCKOUTS had to be the highlight of the day without a doubt, these two Masters have worked incredibly close over the last week, to the benefit of the DBBAI and South Africa, with Masters like this on board I feel we will go along way. I am looking forward to be able to attend the next one, with such commitment from our Masters I am privileged to be a part of the DBBAI.
It may be called a Master Class but I feel that a lot can be learnt from these sessions for those of us who genuinely want to learn and progress, no matter what our grade.
My thanks and best wishes to all the Master's who made me feel a part of the day.

Hi Mark
The master class was very good, learnt lots of new stuff. (we have already started practising Master Jacobson's bong applications in class. Although we are having trouble remembering them all.) I Personally loved Master McCann's close contact work and would like to do more of this. ( Is there any chance you could persuade Master McCann to show us the knife fighting scenario, using marker pens, that he talked about during the class) Thank you for presenting me with my 1st Dan certificate, I was honoured to have received it in front all the masters that were present. Hopefully I will prove to be worthy of it
Stuart

Hi Stuart, I will ask Master McCann he can teach at the next Master Class ( I still owe him for the last one LOL)

Hi Mark,

The Master Class was, as anticipated, another top day with some exceptional martial artists. Master McCann's applications of techniques for self-defence was excellent and had all of us rolling, if not in agony, certainly in discomfort on the mat. I think everyone got some new ideas on nerve points and on how to adapt traditional techniques for practical close-in situations.

The breaking techniques were good fun too, and every now and then, when the board broke easily I thought I was getting the hang of using energy rather than effort.... more practice required, but there were certainly a few lessons learnt about efficient breaking techniques.

Master Jacobson's breakdown of the Bo form into applications was excellent. I found this a very good way of understanding the use of the weapon and of assisting in memorizing the form... In fact I think I still remember it!! not bad for an old guy!

Of course kamran and one or two others were knocked out by the whole event.. and I'm still not sure if he knows what happened or not!

A great day again Mark, thanks for setting it up and thanks to all the masters for their time and effort in making it both informative and fun.

My congratulations to all those who received dan grade certificates. It is always a pleasure to see peoples hard effort rewarded, Special congratulations to Kieran Mackey for his achievement in reaching 4th Dan (no easy task, but well deserved) and to Master Jacobson who is clearly an inspiration to all of us..
cheers Mark
see you soon

A worthwhile seminar in every way. I was impressed by meeting Master Jacobson alone! Waveforming hand techniques through the blue break board was a real confidence boost, justifying the various techniques (such as Mind Breath Body) as well as applying new ones to excellent effect. After the period with Master McCann my opinion was reaffirmed that Karate techniques are an effective form of self defence and close quarter fighting, we need more sessions to compare new and refine old applications ( It wasn't pretty but it was "bloody" good fun! ) I'm glade that I didn't buy in "girly" bongs for my students, they wouldn't last. It is with quiet satisfaction that we now have a real form that drills applications that will not let our guys down. However more time was needed to consolidate the new form, an easy criticism in a busy day, sorry. The look on the faces of the guys that were knocked out was very telling, you have developed a power that confirms that you have taken us down the right road. The care that the Masters applied to these guys also showed the humble, soft side of the warrior. In short, I am proud to be a member of DBBAI, we are going in the right direction with the right attitude and most importantly with the right friends, and it is with confidence that I teach my class. Please pass on my thanks to all the Masters that took part, and I look forward to meeting them all again soon. Ian Woolley
