London testing now on the 5th April
Grandmaster Tom Muncy's seminar on the 6th April is cancelled
Breaking seminar 20th April Sawtry 2pm
1/ British Championships feedback
The day was a great success with the usual blend of good nature and spirited competition that I've witnessed at all DBBAI events. As always everyone was very welcoming and the standard of sportsmanship was exceptional.
It was good to see so many Masters at the event and especially so to renew old acquaintances. (not all old of course!)
I was particularly pleased to see the Tiger Gym TSD group were able to come along and I hope we will see them again at the next event.
I enjoyed the refereeing as always and would like to extend my appreciation for some excellent support from all the ring judges who worked with me throughout the day.
Finally my thanks and applause to Kieran, Arthur and all of the London group whose efforts went to make the day a great success.
all the best

3/ Weapons feedback
I have tried out the new Bo staff form with my white belt students and they love it.
Very simple and effective moves for white and orange belts.
This gives the lower grade students a chance to compete in the weapons category at the world championships.
We can see how the rest fit in when we get together with Master Jacobsen in July.
Tried the new bong for out at the Waddington seminar and the guys looked good after 15 minutes work. The form has 10 moves and has practical self-defence applications, O'yes and its "Cool"
4/ JOKE
Defence Lawyer's Good News
"I have good news and bad news," the defence lawyer says to his client." "What's the bad news?" The lawyer says, "Your blood matches the DNA found at the murder scene."
"Dammit!" cries the client. "What's the good news?" "Well," the lawyer says, "Your cholesterol is down to 140."
5/ Subtle energy research.
a/ Hand movements that have a similar effect to the different Kihap sounds (Very effective)
b/ More negative Ki energy transducers
c/ Ki flow blockers (These act like diodes and allow the Ki to flow in one direction only)
d/ Energetic effects of a trapped nerve at T1
6/ IGTSDA World Champs 2003
After the British Championships last weekend we are now looking at a maximum of 350 competitors for the world champs any more and we will need a bigger venue. A bigger venue this time around is now not a practical option. There are many new instructors and Master instructors interested in the IGTSDA championships so get your entry forms in ASAP or you maybe to late.
The championship venue is outside the £5 congestion charge zone for central London. (Its very easy to get to from the M11)

7/Contact lenses "could treat eye disease"
Soft contact lenses that slowly release drugs into the eye could one day be used to treat conditions such as glaucoma, US researchers predict.
Researchers from the University of Florida say they are in the process of developing a lens that releases medication to the precise part of the eye that needs therapy.
The development could provide a solution to one of the biggest problems associated with using eye drops, which is that around 95 per cent of medication ends up where it is not needed, said study author Dr Anuj Chauhan.
Eye drops, said Dr Chauhan, can cause serious side effects by draining into the nasal cavity and entering the bloodstream and other organs, resulting in serious conditions such as heart problems.
However, with the soft contact lenses that the team is developing, drugs could be released at a slow enough speed to remain in the eye.
The team has found a way to include a drug in minute granules known as nanoparticles - too small to be seen with the naked eye - which are then put into the contact lens matrix during manufacture.
The lenses they are investigating would be disposable and could be worn for up to two weeks, providing a steady supply of the relevant drugs directly to where they are needed.
Rather than being exposed to a sudden high dose of medication from eye drops, the patient wearing one of these lenses would receive the right amount of medication all the time.
Dr Chauhan suggests that his approach offers an improvement on previous attempts to make drug-impregnated contact lenses by soaking the lenses in drug solution or by trapping the drug in a cavity within the lens. These drug-soaked lenses are not very effective at delivering medications for extended periods of time, he explains.
"Our approach allows us great flexibility in designing controlled drug-delivery vehicles that can be tailored to different drugs, but are also effective for extended periods of time," he says.
However, the team emphasise that the lenses are still at an early design stage and have not been tested clinically.
The research was presented at a recent meeting of the American Chemical Society.

9/SARS may be related to cold virus
US scientists say the most likely cause of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) - responsible for 17 deaths around the world since February - is an unknown virus related to the common cold.
The first outbreaks of SARS are believed to have occurred in southern China during mid February and three patients have contracted the disease in the UK.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that, following laboratory analysis, a "previously unrecognised virus" from the coronavirus family has been identified as the most probable agent behind SARS.
Two coronaviruses are known to infect humans and are responsible for a third of common colds. They are also a common cause of upper respiratory infections in premature babies.
The CDC said more research was needed to confirm the hypothesis, including further viral specimen culturing, genome sequencing and examination of specimens from different stages of the illness.
In a press briefing yesterday (24/03/2003) CDC Director Dr Julie Gerberding said, "We certainly have more work to do, but we think we are on the right track.
"The information we have today suggests that this virus could, in fact, be a part of, if not the entire cause of SARS."
Dr Gerberding added, however, that the CDC respected the findings of the other laboratories collaborating in the investigation.
"It's very premature to assign a cause or to make dogmatic statements about the aetiology," she said. "We're still learning as we go, and we will maintain that spirit of collaboration."
The World Health Organization (WHO) set up a network of 11 leading laboratories on February 17 to attempt to identify the causative agent of the illness. WHO said this work was "continuing at breakneck speed" with researchers using a restricted website to exchange data and daily teleconferences to compare virological and clinical information.
As of yesterday (24/03/2003), the World Health Organization said 456 suspected SARS cases and 17 deaths had been reported around the world, and that Hong Kong remained the most severely affected area, having reported 260 cases and 10 deaths.
Other severely affected areas include Singapore, with 65 cases, Vietnam, with 58 cases and 4 deaths, and Canada, with 11 cases and 3 deaths
We have new information about the spread of viruses using an energetic approach, the human immune system is weakened by energy associated with the pathogen and then further weakened by pressure on nerves at T4 and L5, like a snow ball effect. Free the nerves to break the cycle by a simple back stretch. This will stop the suppression of the immune system and if the immune system is strong enough it will eradicate the infection. We can go into greater detail at the next master class. This can be also used offensively, energy can be used to make an opponent ill in the same manner at a pathogen.
