History of the National College Lacrosse League
The National College Lacrosse League (NCLL) was
founded by Scott K. Frederick on December 2, 1990, for the purpose of
having a national college club league to formalize
competition on the college club level between schools, with the ultimate
goal
of crowning a national champion. There were 27
charter schools involved in the inaugural 1991 season.
The name of the league was voted on by the charter
clubs. The word "club" does not appear in the title so as not to be
confused with the post collegiate clubs or city
teams.
The NCLL is completely independent of the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the United States
Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).
Purpose of the NCLL

of membership in a recognized organization

new clubs can readily assimilate

for member teams

will
be dealt with by the Commissioner.
Meetings
There are three meetings held each year. The first,
or Organizational Meeting, is held on the third Saturday in September;
the second, or Final Scheduling Meeting, is held
on the first Saturday in December. The third, or General Meeting, is held
on the Saturday that falls between the NFL's
final four and the Super Bowl. The third meeting may be eliminated if participation
in the other meetings accomplishes the business
of the league. Regional Meetings, held in October and November, are
primarily for teams to do their division scheduling.
NCLL meetings are governed by Roberts Rules of
Parliamentary Procedure. To be recognized, you must raise your hand and
be acknowledged by the Commissioner, who chairs
the meeting. Everyone will have a chance to express his opinion and
viewpoint. Debate will not be limited so that
all will have a chance to speak their piece.
Scheduling
Scheduling of games can begin any time the team
representatives are back in school. At the Scheduling Meeting in December,
teams will provide copies of their Spring schedule
to the Commissioner, local assignors, and the Editor of the Newsletter.
Any
changes to schedules after the December meeting
should be telephoned to the Commissioner, local assignors, and the Editor
of
the Newsletter. Schedules may be E-mailed to
the editor at wvulax@westco.net any time for early posting.
A minimum of eight games against NCLL opponents
must be played to be eligible for the playoffs. If a team plays another
team
more than once in a season, only the first game
will be counted. There is no limit on the amount of games you may play,
nor is
their a prohibition on whom you may play.
Standings
All teams must report their scores to the Official
Statistician, wvulax@westco.net within 48 hours of game time. Much of the
delay in scheduling playoff games has been caused
by some teams reporting their scores at the last minute. All teams should
monitor the standings and schedules that are
posted to verify treir accuracy.
