Good selection of poignant Ministry of Information films seen too in the IWM Cinema, though it beats me why tiring parents would drag sundry under-12 brats into a screening of Humphrey Jennings' "A Diary For Timothy" (1945, black and white and with no barely-dressed "bitches" hanging off the sides of pimps in limousines), stay just long enough for the kids to bugger up the screening for the rest of us by using the entire cinema floorspace as a sandpit, then leave during the last five minutes, having taken 25 minutes too long to work out that they'd gotten this seriously wrong. Couldn't they read the schedule outside, or didn't they try? What did they (and all the others who pushed bright doors open mid-film to blink blankly at the screen from the doorway and then leave) expect when they saw CINEMA over the door? "The Lion King", perhaps? Maybe I'm being a bit harsh. But I'm like that, strangely, when I fly from the other side of the planet to see something and it gets muddled by "uh? oh, woops, sorry" clanger-droppers from the next postal zone. Dropped in on Piccadilly Circus on the way home. Tower Records is gone!! The 1940s-era world times map-clock in Piccadilly tube concourse is still there, but nobody else seems to have noticed that the clock has stopped. According to Piccadilly, it is forever 4pm in Sydney. My good deed today: saving a young woman from going all the way down the Heathrow branch while trying to get to South Harrow, and again, I'M supposed to be the visitor here...at least her grateful smile wiped away her "why is this tall freak talking to me?" look. And we have a Man Utd & Arsenal FA Cup Final.
