| 10.20am and a cup of Sky Time Yuzu (JAL citrus drink). Served in a plastic cup. Think that's changed too since 9/11. Eight hours to go to Narita according to my Magic-1 video screen. We appear to be over the NSW Northern Rivers already. 10,400 metres, 950 km/h. So says the map. The clouds outside could be anywhere. Some pretty bad turbulence between 2.00 and 2.30 and between Port Moresby and Guam. No sickness. Evening. Hotel Nikko, Narita. Nice, but not as relentlessly cool as Osaka. Very hard to discuss early check-in for next flight at hotel desk with my non-existent Japanese. Lots of sullen, "too cool for thou" young Westerners here this time, all boring boofy blokes together. Already fed up with various fellow Caucasians jumping queues for everything from boarding planes to shuttle buses. It shouldn't BE a cultural distinction, but I've never yet seen a Japanese do it. They just don't seem to. Just who the hell do some Brits and Australians think they are? Raining. Dark. Almost been here before. No idea where Akihabara is from here without a guide so I drink 2310 yen worth of Johnnie Walker Black in the 11th floor bar (i.e. two shots with HUGE single ice blocks in them), wander the small gift kiosks in the hotel, then shower and stay in the room, feeling small watching 10 free channels of Tokyo television and knowing not one word.
