In some cases sexing your quail will be no problem as the males and females have very different plumage (normal chinese painted). In others however this is not the case so a different approach is needed. The simplest method is observation, males and females act quite differently from one another a male will herd a female and shield her from other males. A male will offer food to a female cheeping to call her over (females will not do this to males). Males are vocal and strutt around with confidence. While females will be more passive and generally quieter. Below is a simple drawing of a male and female vent, by compairing your birds to this drawing and observing their behaviour you should get a good idea of what sex they are. |
