Here is information on my UK Self ancestry. It goes back to William Self and Elizabeth Howlett who were
married 14 October 1784 in the Bressingham parish church in Norfolk. These were my great, great, great, great grandparents. They had 3 known
children (likely more though) as follows:
Mary Self born Blo Norton, Norfolk 19 December 1801 (She was my great, great, great grandmother)
James Self born about 1800 in Blo Norton and married to Susan Kemp
Hannah Self born 7 May 1804 in Blo Norton
Mary Self gave birth, apparently out of wedlock, to my great, great
grandfather Samuel Self in Blo Norton in 1826. Samuel married Sarah Ann
Giles in Breckles, Norfolk 11 October 1856. Samuel and Sarah had six
known children as follows:
William Self born 16 July 1863 in Stow Bedon, Norfolk (He was my great
grandfather)
Mary Ann Self born about 1859 in Stow Bedon
Eunice Self born about 1860 in Roudham, Norfolk
Lucy M. Self born about 1866 in Wretham, Norfolk
Frederick John Self born 4 May 1868 in Wretham
George Self born about 1871 in Attleborough, Norfolk
My great grandfather, William Self, married Harriet Mitchel in the
Attleborough parish church 2 March 1884. William and Harriet had six
known children as follows:
Lydia Annie Self born 11 September 1892 in Little Melton, Norfolk (She
was my grandmother)
Maude Ethel Self born 5 January 1885 in Morley St Botolph and married
to
Arthur William Symonds
Florence Mary Self born about 1886 in Scoulton, Norfolk
Daisy Maria Self born about 1888 in Scoulton
Albert Self born after 1891
Hilda May Self born about 1900
My grandmother, Lydia Annie Self married a Scottish soldier named
James
McCormack in 1913 who was, at the time, stationed in Norfolk. The
couple moved to Glasgow where they remained before emigrating to
Toronto, Canada after World War I.
