The only information I have with regard to my Self is: David Self, father of Charlotte Self. Charlotte was born in betesdale, Suffolk in 1871 and died in Stow Bridge Norfolk on 18 Nov 1963. She married William David Landymore on 3 Oct 1896. I am doing a one-name study on Landymore and have alot of information on  that side of the family including Charlotte's descendants.

I am looking for any information on the family of Sarah SELF, born
September 1881, in Scrattage, Middlesex.  She was born to Robert SELF
and Emily HARRIS.  Her siblings as far as I know from both the 1881
census and 1891 census are:  William, Henry, Beatrice, Edith and
George.  Sarah(Sally) immigrated to Canada in 1913, with her husband
Thomas WOODLEY, and their three children.  She was apparently
disowned by her family at this point. Does anyone have any connection to this family? Julie Dunnett  (JDUNNETT@HOME.COM)

I am researching a distant branch of my London England 'Meale' family. A
distant cousin Frederick Henry Meale married Violet Self in West London 1941. Can anyone in the Self family help my research or point in the direction of any living relatives? Steve Meale, Hertfordshire England (steven.meale@ntlworld.com)

My 'Self' Intro. My name is Mandy Andersen and currently live in Portland, Oregon.  I emigrated 10 years ago with my American husband.  Nevertheless, both our hearts have to deal with frequent bouts of homesickness.
My 'Self' line first makes an appearance with my gg.grandmother Henrietta
Self who was born about 1839 in Dickleburgh, Norfolk.  Henrietta was the
daughter of Robert Self (abt. 1796, Dickleburgh) and Hannah Self (abt. 1816
Dickleburgh).  We do not know whether Hannah was a relative of Robert's or just that her maiden name was not recorded. Henrietta had two siblings that we know of:  Georgina (abt. 1836) and Hephsiba (abt. 1840), both of Dickleburgh, Norfolk. In my notes there appear to be unconfirmed guesses on the parents of Robert, but I have no proof and if I remember correctly, I obtained them on-line from the IGI with nothing to prove the connection.  Those names were John Self and Frances Gleed.  Perhaps someone on this list can let me know if I'm 'barking up the wrong Self'. Looking forward to the postings on this list, Mandy Andersen (andersen@spiritone.com)

I am interested in John and Elizabeth Self in Norfolk England,
(Felmingham, Skeyton or Churchgate) circe 1750-1800.  Their daughter, Mary Ann, married Robert Slapp in 1835 (Felmingham)  and emigrated to Australia on the "Canton" in 1841. Their daughter, Ruth Slapp (b 28/6/1837), is my wife's great  grandmother. Don Gillespie (dizoz@hotkey.net.au)

Christina Self - Great Yarmouth,  Stella@harpley.demon.co.uk
in a query in the Self Family Newsletter, Vol. 11, Issue #3, writes: I am interested in getting in contact with anyone related to Christina Self
(nee Harpley) b. circa 1826 in Great Yarmouth. She may have been a twin. If anyone has information on her I can trade with a family tree dating back to 1740. Only bits I can add are that she may have also been known as Christian orChristiana after her mother, who came from Inverness, Scotland. Her twin may have been Rosina born the same year. She was one of 12 children though her mother was the second wife of George Harpley (Her mother had 7 children). Her husband was a seaman. Her son was called George and was born circa 1849. In 1851 she lived with her parents (though she was married) and worked as a silk weaver. I have also found her in 1881 and 1891 census. She continued to work as a silk weaver. In these two census' she lived with her sisters Mary and Julia.

I have a very large Dudley family tree and am trying to tidy up around the
edges. William Self married Sarah Dudley bap 3 Sept 1776 but I have no other genealogical information. Directories show William as a butcher in Dudley in 1829 and 1836, but in the 1841 census William Self jun aged 20 appears as a butcher in Dudley High Street with his wife Ann and in 1845 another William, presumably senior, is listed amongst the gentry at 10 Victoria Terrace, Dudley. The William who was 20 in 1841 looks almost too young to be a son of Sarah Dudley bap 1776, even allowing for rounding of the date, and I wonder if he is the product of a second marriage. There is a note in the family papers which says that William and Sarah Dudley also had a daughter Ann but no further detail is given. Blocksidge's Dudley Almanack of 1913-1914 reproduces a photograph, said to be before 1863, of three Dudley shopkeepers one of whom is identified as William  Self, it adds that he died a pauper in the workhouse. I would be most grateful for anything that you can add to the story. I have Sarah Dudley's lineage back to 1435 with certainty and possibly beyond that to before the Conquest.
