| April 2009 I'm gIad I made the Berlin trip. Volker is doing much better. It was good to see the family. I takes a while to get used to Malvern. First bike ride back here at 35 degrees. Back in Miami I thought putting on sunscreen sucks... March 2009 The last four weeks in paradise. We try out the raft pulled by Lianette's boat. We get coast guard attention, that's all I'm saying. Lots of bike riding with Howie's Zensah team (now that we don't have any more Saturday Spanish classes). Bettina's 'Maedels' visit us in Miami Beach: Lorie, Jen and Anne. Many farewell parties (until the police came). Latest favorite: Pandora Radio! The highlights here Back to Malvern, 2 day trip with lots of rain. Unplanned trip to Berlin - no, it's not because of April fools day. February 2009 The month starts with a conference in San Antonio, TX. Then further north: Benton Harbor, MI. This is where I fall into the hot tub in the middle of the night. Try the Courtyard. Everglades tour with Irmela and Philip and Volker and Karla. Volker demonstrates how many times you need to drive your bike over an alligator's tale to upset these cute animals. Tim pays us a visit. More boat tours with Lianette. January 2009 Back to work, back to reality. At least somewhat. Started taking Spanish classes, slow progress though... Uli runs the Miami Half Marathon. Kristin visits us. Boat trips with Lianette. Bike rides. Beach runs. December 2008 The first four weeks in North Beach and we feel quite at home. A few of the highlights: the house is right on the water which makes kayaking or boating very convenient, Uli can use the bike to go grocery shoping, we have about 10 restaurants in walking distance, morning or evening beach runs with Emma, met a bunch of avid cyclists and some good routes, re-discovered scuba diving, Tennis lessons from ex pro Robin, the fact that I have (technically) 4 weeks of vacation and of course ... the weather - we are only indoors to sleep... More pictures here We spent New Year Eve with our new friends, first bbq-ing on our deck, then on Lianette's boat watching the fireworks in the Biscayne Bay and then at Space Nightclub until the break of dawn. November 2008 Obama won the election. What a race. The guy must be so exhausted. Get a break man, you have a tough four years ahead of you! Yes, it's hard to believe - after 4.5 years we finally got our Green Card. Was it a birthday present? Who knows, who cares... And we signed a lease for our winter escape in Miami Beach. A lot of reasons to party - about 30 friends came to our Malvern farewell bash before we left for our 1,200 mile trip to Miami. It's great to be on the water! Uli is back in Trinidad - looking forward to using my vacation in December. We have been able to enjoy the warm Miami weather, the water and the sun. Uli's first Florida bike ride ended after 3 miles (running over a pocket knife). Since we live right on the water, Emma can bark at every coconut floating by and we can explore the area by kayak. Here a link to a first series of pictures.? October 2008 Volker and Karla paid us a visit and Bettina came back after 5 weeks in the motherland. We enjoyed the quality time with my folks. Build a playground with about 200 IBM and SAP volunteers. That was an amazing experience. September 2008 Edith will have bypass surgery and Bettina is back in Germany. Uli is a little overworked... could use some vacation. We are seriously thinking about spending a couple winter months in Miami. The City to Shore event was a lot of fun. 175 miles in 2 days. Haven't done this in about 20 years. And Team SAP rocked. Check our blog. August 2008 Perfect weather. Enjoyed working a couple weeks in Miami, including Salsa Boot Camp. Also: Chicago. Bettina is poised do the 75 miles for the City to Shore ride. July 2008 Started the month in the Mile High City: Denver. Bettina's birthday party in Malvern. Now she got the bike bug - training for the City to Shore event. More weekend rides. June 2008 Emergency in Limburgerhof - Bettina's mom had a heart attack and Bettina immediately went to see her. No more Chicago trips for Uli, but Trinidad instead. Let me tell you: it's not really a vacation destination. Noteworthy events: charity event at Linda and Kit's house, many fun Saturday bike rides, Travel to Trinidad - almost missed flight, Alicia's Palace on Lady Chancellor Road, leaving my blackberry and the client badge in the taxi (fortunately got both back within a few hours) and many more... May 2008 Finally, Summer is here: on 5/27 the air conditioning officially went on. Memorial Day weekend was fabulous: 4 days on the bike, Kerstin's Birthday party, Dinner at Four Dogs Tavern, reading "Der Schwarm" on the deck. And of Bettina almost became a suburban housewife: she painted half of the house. Went to see the Wilmington Grand Prix in Delaware. Andrea and Nadine visited for a week - we enjoyed their company while they enjoyed the strong Euro... It's been a while since my last SAPPHIRE - I can confirm it's still an impressive event... Orlando was hectic, with little sleep but lots of fun - meeting old friends - special thanks to Deloitte's party at the Bahama Breeze and of course the amazing Eric Clapton concert. Still working in Chicago... April 2008 Went to NYC for a Saturday, strolled through SoHo, had dinner with Andreas and Lisa, saw Kuan in action. Convertible weather. Induction ceremony for Beta Gamma Sigma @ St. Joe's. Party at Nisha and Harish's, Peter Siebert stopped by for a weekend. Working in Chicago. March 2008 Hiking the 'AT', aka Appalachian Trail, with friends and Emma. Super views on a sunny but chilly day. We are waiting for the real spring with some warmer weather. Together with colleagues, we started a small SAP Cycling Team with Saturday training rides. Lots of fun. Our short trip to Germany almost didn't happen for Uli since he became 'sick as a dog'. But thanks to 'wonder drugs' (no idea what pills Dr. Lothar Heinrich gave me, it just worked) we've had a great time with family and friends in Berlin: Connies Birthday, reunion with Rita and Hannes, Holger, Jana, Tim and Helena. February 2008 Bettina finally got her 8 cylinder vehicle. And Emma got a wagon. Now we are driving solid American craftsmanship (with some German assistance though). Let's see what the real gas mileage is going to be. January 2008 Small gig in Wisconsin, travel chaos, tornado, fog, flight delays - great start. Conference in Las Vegas. Workshops in Manhattan. Back in business, baby. December 2007 "Schmuddelwetter" in Malvern. Canceled New York weekend due to ice rain. Getting ready for a quiet Holiday Season. Had a quiet Holiday Season. Uli's parents came over for New Years. Time to relax and reflect... Read about 2007 in retrospect. November 2007 Project in Atlanta, rather quiet Thanksgiving holidays. October 2007 Enjoying the late summer weather! Celebrated Katharina's and Bill's Hawaian surprise wedding. Thanks to Judy's invitation, Emma got to explore the Atlantic Ocean (seemingly for the first time). Water that moves... and it tastes funny... hmmmm... running in the sand is great... and all these new smells... ?She definitely liked the Jersey Shore. Even when we took her for a 35 mile bike ride (in a trailer). September 2007 After 12 weeks working in NY State it's time to move on: Jacksonville, FL. Well it's work, not just beach time... August 2007 Recuperating from our U.S. trip, some work around the house, some running, but mostly taking it easy and enjoying the summer. June/July 2007 A client engagement brought Uli back to lovely central Michigan and a trip to Zurich. Uli's Parents came for 8 weeks of house and dog-sitting while we went off on our road trip across the U.S. (see updates on our travel site). Peter, Steffi and Sven came for a long weekend, just in time to organize the welcome parade for Betti?na and Andrea finishing off the U.S. trip. Parties at George and Nancie's, Melinda and Chris' house. Sales meetings in Washington D.C. where Uli finally went to the legendary Eighteenth Street Lounge in D.C. (home of Thievery Corporation!) - thanks to Natalia for scouting - and the Smithonian Air and Space Museum. May 2007 A day in NYC with Peter, incl. a visit to Rodney Dangerfield's comedy club, 2.5 hrs sleep and then off to the Broad Street Run (10 miles) in Philly. Tired... May 12 was the big day: Uli's MBA graduation at Saint Joe's University. It was a hot sunny day. After the official ceremony at the university we partied at Adrian's house in Lancaster. Caipirinha - that's all I'm saying. Uli will spend the last few days of the month in Zurich. We are in full swing planning for our BIG TRIP across the U.S. and read our BLOG documenting our experiences. April 2007 Final days of school. Uli got his private life back! Never ending winter with snow on April 16, and 90 degrees a week later. Business trips to Toronto (CAN) and Monterrey (MEX) were very interesting. Lots of gardening... March 2007 Convertible weather on March 2 (in Malvern), right in time for Uli's study tour to Paris and Athens, after which he spent a few days to visit family in Berlin. Edith and Andrea visiting for two weeks, it's cold again. Waiting for Spring! February 2007 Okay, winter is finally here. It's cold, and we finally got some snow... January 2007 Back to school.
