As part of the Carrickfergus Waterfront Festival and the Pageant Celebrations in Carricfergus to commemorate the landing of William Prince of Orange in June 1690 the band was asked if we would like to play on the Castle green we had been asked last year but didn't think our style of playing would have fitted the ocassion being it a Sunday so the Regimental band of the Ulster Volunteer Force took up the offer and it was a great day, so this year after disscusion we decided to give it a go. So with only a few band practices until today we went over some tunes you could get away with on a Sunday like a few Jigs, Hymns and Marches, we had a very small band in attendance but this was fine as this was the sort of size we were looking for to play. We opened up to a welcoming applause from the public who had gathered to watch the band we then took our seats and struck up a tune and this was to be one of the best tunes of the day "The British Grenadiers" the band had practised this tune for a few weeks to get it the way we wanted it, after all we are the Grenadiers! we play first and second flutes in this tune and we played it that well we decided to finish the day of by playing it again. We then played Abide with Me and a few other well known hymns followed by some jigs like Belfast Hornpipe and Ulster Roses and then the March Oswald all in all a very good day with the setting of the Castle in the background, I think the band will do this event every year as ti is something different to what we are used to.
