The band attended their 10th parade of the season in Rathfriland, the host band was Pride of the Hill f.b. This parade plays a big part in the fitness training for the band with those steep hills.......Ha Ha. On a more serious note this was our first outing in our new uniforms, although we looked really well our playing just wasn't up to the Gren's standard. We started badly and only improved slightly as we progressed around the parade route. This was the worst the band has played since i have been a member, I guess it aint bad to have only one bad night out of two years of parades.
The band were all dissapointed and felt we had let ourselfs down, but the positive way to react to this is to make sure we never play as badly again. Back to the parade, I saw a few bands on the night, at the starting point i saw Lambeg walking out and i have to say they always impress me with their playing, they are like us parading with low numbers but giving it their all. I also seen Drumderg and South Down Defenders who were both going well. At the finishing point i got to see plenty of bands with SBYC and Knockmore being pick of the bunch for me, SBYC where playing really well and if they keep playing like that they are sure to start lifting trophies once again. Also i thought Knockmore sounded really well with their bass drummer playing excellent.
Donaghadee also impressed me with their superb drum corps. I have to mention the Corbet Accordion Band who entertained the crowds and got a fantastic reception by us all. Overall it was a super parade with all the top bands on show. On the judging i thought the judges got everything spot on apart from Drum Major, our drum major got 3rd place but i honestly thought he deserved 1st place. He is th eonly young drum major using a real mace pole and has a lot of skill and style and is a real crowd pleaser, some weeks he doesn't even get placed which i find hard to understand...{ok rant over}. Well done to POTH on a well run parade and we look forward to seeing you in Carrickfergus later on in the year.
