History BMW originated in 1916 as the Bavarian Motor Works. Originally BMW made aircraft, thats how the logo they use today came about, it symbolises a rotating aircraft propeller. In 1923 BMW made their first motorcycle, it was a 500cc with 8.5hp, then in 1928 BMW built it's first motor car it was a version of the Austin 7 built under license. In 1932, BMW launched it's own design, using a 800cc engine with a tubular backbone chassis and independent suspension.
