The Ultimate Sports Grillers responded from their worst game of the season on Tuesday night in Brainerd with an impressive come-from-behind 5-3 victory over Sauk Rapids Jimmy's in Lakewood League action on Wednesday night at Joe Faber Field. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Brent Putz singled and was tripled home by Jason Kotschevar. Brent Schloe followed with a single to tie the game at 3-3. In the eighth, Ryan Schneider singled with two outs, Josh Vorpahl followed with a double to score Schneider, and Putz added a single to score Vorpahl on a close play at the plate. Vorpahl also picked up the pitching win in relief of Aaron Rocheleau, who made his first start of the season.
Overall, the Grillers had 12 hits in the game, led by Schloe, who finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Vorpahl finished 2-for-3 with a double, one run, and an RBI; Brent Putz was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI; and Ryan Schneider, in his first game as a Griller, finished 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. On the mound, Aaron Rocheleau allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out six, and walked three in 6 2/3 innings of work. Vorpahl went the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing no runs, one hit, and striking out four.
