Two of Texas's biggest names have come together for a collaboration album entitled “The Big Unit” on Noddfactor Records. The album has features from Tela, Bun-B, Eightball, DJ DMD, & More.
1. "Intro" typical intro, starts off just a introduction of the album H-Town, Big Unit putting it down you get the idea.
2. "Dirty" (Ft DJ DMD) mid temp beat this sounds like some warped ass circus tent music right here. The hooks sort of changes throughout the track but it kicks off simple and monotone to start "This Is How We Do It Down In The Dirty – Get The Thing Crunk Here In The Dirty – Act A Damn Fool Down Here In The Dirty – Throwing Bows Down Here In The Dirty". DJ DMD is featured on this one he drops a verse towards the middle of things it is straight for the most part, the unit doesn’t do much better just, just a average track to get things started.
3. "Aint Nothin Like" (Ft E-Roc) simple beat, laid back gritty, simple southside shit. The hook goes something like "Aint Nothing Like Pussy – Aint Nothing Like The Way The Southern Players Ball – Aint Nothing Like Rolling Up In The Candy Lac – Aint Nothing Like Rolling With The Top Dropped Down.". The Unit is dropping some solid shit on this track, they talking about being on top of things balling, how aint nothing better than having the best of everything when it comes to living this life.
4. "Southern Nigga" (Ft 8 Ball) beat is real nice it has a real hard ass southern feel, has sort of a chop effect going to it, one of the better beats on the album right here. The Unit is coming good on this one and they are assisted by the legendary Eightball who always comes clean on his verses, they talking about how it feels to be a southern cat in this game, aint nothing like being from the south often imitated but never duplicated when it comes to being from the southside of thangs.
5. "Practice" a skit…..skip it
6. "Weak Talk" old school beat being sampled right here the triggerman thing going to it, not bad but its been done quite a few times. The Unit is talking about how people worldwide jocking on them and how they want to be just like them, walk the way they walk, talk the way they talk, just imitate and wanting to be something they cant, not a bad track but average and sub par for the most part.
7. "Gangstas" beat is so so not to much to it, you either will feel it or hate it. Slim Thug on the solo tip for this track and he doing one of them this is for my Gangstas worldwide type of tracks. He talking bout all the hustlers, ballers, bangers, out their doing their thing this song is for you, the hook is pretty simple and repetitive goes something like this "This Is For My Gangstas".
8. "Bout That" beat is not hitting on much of anything has you in a trance trying to get out and get to the next track. The Unit comes aight on this track they just talking about the typical balling making money type of shit, the beat just kills the track making it hard for you to listen anymore than you have too.
9. "Fake Niggaz" a skit, want to be gameshow host, check it out if you into skits….
10. "Point Em Out" (Ft E-Roc) sounds like some hella old school bootyshake shit. The hook is on the shout type of feel "If You See A Fake" so and so point em out, you get the idea, its been done a million times. The Unit and E-Roc coming with sort of a bounce club type of track right here, its meant to be some crunk move type of feel but it just not doing too much. It's like they tried too hard. Another mediocre track right here.
11. "Make It Touch The Floor" (Ft Tela) beat sounds like ancient Chinese music from like 1400’s or some shit. The beat don’t really go with the topic of the track, this is supposed to be sort of a booty shake club type of track but it just aint really that type of feel. The verses are coming half ass once again on this one, another skipper right here.
12. "My Life" real chill beat, some of that kick back on the beach Caribbean waves type of feel. Lil Keke on a solo tip for this track and he coming straight on this one, it seems Keke degrades a little every time you hear him lately, he just not bringing it like he used to, this track is just average for the most part hook and all.
13. "Oh Buddy" (Ft Bun B Of UGK) this beat sounds like some ancient shit from India, its on a popular vibe as of late why not take a shot at it. The hook is not too great "Oh Buddy", the flows come pretty good but once again a crappy hook and the beat ruin it, not really the type of track for these type of rappers, another track that sort of fits the filler category.
14. "In Da Club" (Ft Da Boyz In Blue) aint much to this beat sounds like some late night cruising through the city type of music. The Unit is talking about finding some hoes out on the town on this one, trying to get them hoes to give up some cut up, partying all night, hitting the club getting your drank on, that type of deal. The flows for the most part come straight but overall it aint nothing too great once again its not up to these rappers' potential.
15. "This Is How We Do" (Ft Late Nite) real clean kick back chill beat, reminisce on the old times type of tracks. This track the Unit actually bringing it nice, nice kick back Texas shit, not ass hard on the lyrics but still clean to hear them spitting to a clean beat and dropping some soliding flows. The hook has Late Nite Singing on the hook, just some real chill shit get your ride and smoke on to it.
16. "Nodd Factor" beat hmmm got to check this one out for yourself, sounds like a anthem. Track is definitely different not really much to say about this one except check it out for yourself, it sort of samples a old school song but they flipped it their way.
17. "Outro"
The production done by Mr Lee & Mike Dean was not terrible but was nowhere near good either, a lot of the beats were just hard to get into or they just did not fit the style of the two rappers. When this collaboration first came up it has most folks excited because these are two of the more prominent rappers when you think of Texas right now. The thing that kills it is that they both come mediocre to bad all the way through on this album and the beats don’t help the fact. A lot of the songs they are talking about the same thing and the verses seem similar at times content wise. It like they just got some beats, had them spit some bars, added some hooks and thought it was going to sell because of the rep the rappers have right now. Keke has been on sort of a downward motion as of late dropping a lot of sub par material and Slim Thug on the other hand has been making a slow but steady come up. This should have been the album to raise the bar for both of these rappers but once again with most albums coming out in the past few years disappoint is all that comes about. Overall, this album is a big let down, after all the delays it might well should of stayed delayed because the only thing that is going to help this one sell is the names alone.
