Glimmer
is the daughter of Queen Angella and King Micah of Bright Moon
and former leader of the
Great Rebellion.
Glimmer
is the closest a character in the She-Ra series has come to being
an orphan. After her
father Micah left to fight the Horde when Glimmer was a little
girl, she and her mother Angella
virtually lost all hope for his return. [46] Coming from an originally
happy family, Glimmer was
distraught when her mother too disappeared in a battle. For years,
nobody knew what had
happened to Angella, until a spy discovered that she was being
held prisoner by Hunga, Queen
of the Harpies of Talon Mountain. [04] By this time, Glimmer and a group of mere
villagers had
formed a rebellion against the Horde. [01] Glimmer, however, left the
post to Adora when her
mother was rescued by He-Man and She-Ra and she returned to her
position as Princess of
Bright Moon. Her father would return for a brief visit, but would
soon leave again to help free all the
other kingdoms in Etheria, from Hordak's evil reign. [46]
However,
changing her status from a rebel leader to the daughter of a
rebel Queen may not have
been an enormously successful move. Like Bow, Madame Razz and
Adora, Glimmer would be
seen out of Bright Moon or the Whispering Woods in disguise, in
case of any attempted Horde
assaults. [55]
Glimmer,
like her mother Angella, has been given powers over light. This
vast range includes
releasing energy bolts from her hands [05, 66, 77], dazzling brightness from her
chest [63] and also
from nowhere. [24] Other less prominent powers
for Glimmer were showcased throughout the
series too - her ability to disappear and then re-form [01], teleport [02, 25] and also fly. [67, 88] This
skill, however, was a season two addition - Glimmer was incapable
of saving herself from a fall
from a cliff once in season one. [46] Making Glimmer an even more superior member of
the
Rebellion, however, is her one-off invisibility power, used to
escort Bow and a prisoner out of the
Fright Zone dungeous. [80]
Her
energy, as we would see on several occasions, was finite and
could run out any given time or
place. Using these abilities too often or for too long would
exhaust Glimmer
immensely. [02, 63, 74] Although she is such a powerful
character, Glimmer was often
treated as a young girl worthy of educating. Lessons at harming
others [10], boasting [25] and
development [68] are just a few that Glimmer
encountered.
However,
like other female rebel counterparts, Glimmer was another to have
romance on her mind
at various points. It is stated that the girl, who has a history
with the character, used to have an
attraction towards Bow. [41] However, he was more interested in Adora/She-Ra
and Glimmer soon
turned her affections to a Horde Corporal [79] and then to Adora's brother
Adam. [81] However, she
would have to fight Castaspella for the latter!
