Kowl is a pet of the Rebels, but fighting isn't exactly his strong point...
There
are only a few of Kowl's species left on Etheria. Three of the
fortunate few have been
introduced: Kowl himself, a female called Kowla [38] and our favourite bird's
cousin, Red-Eye. [48]
Whilst the former helped Kowl open his eyes to romance and also
the value of freedom, Red Eye
challenged his relative by hooking up with the Horde to defeat
the Rebellion. The thing is, Kowl's
nameless species have the ability to read each other's minds and
see and hear what they do if
they posess a selection of the opposition's feathers. This almost
helped the Horde conquer their
only enemies once, but the quick-thinking mind of She-Ra put a
stop to them.
Kowl's
worth would be proven by his ability to fly and immense speed, as
Queen Angella once
pointed out. [79] He has flown to the aid of
Adora and others several times [14, 21, 42] and also
to warn others of impending danger. [27, 51, 66] However, his biggest weakness
is his lack of
courage, something that would be apparent in a lot of episodes [01, 24, 82] and also be the main
focus of a few. [43, 48, 52] Courage and self-esteem has
also been tackled with such characters
as Madame Razz [43], Peekablue [80] and Spritina [88], but Kowl beats them all off
for winner of
the most prominent fraidy-cat. In fact, the only more cowardly
character to grace the She-Ra series
is Sorrowful, but by the time he made his last appearance [82], he had gained all the courage
he
needed.
The
character that Kowl seems to have the best developed relation
with is Bow. The two appear to
have known each other for years and share a plainly clear love/hate
relationship - they were also
the first Rebels to be seen on She-Ra Princess of Power,
as a brief side-note. They would
exchange jokingly nasty comments with one another [08, 34, 41], but would never let these
come
between their seemingly eternal friendship.
Finally,
a brief note about Kowl's peculiar one-off rivalry with Imp. [43] The two came close to
blows after Imp insulted the rebel bird and then attempted to
frame him as a thief. As one would
expect, the truth came out and Imp got more than he bargained for
for messing with Kowl...
