Oceans are the largest salt bodies of water. 97.25% of all water is ocean water. The Pacific Ocean is the biggest ocean in terms of size and area, as well as the deepest. There is no accurate data on the exact volume of the ocean, so many studies may vary. |

But then, in spring of 2000, the International Hydrographic Organization delimited (marked the boundaries of) a fifth ocean. Starting from Antarctica, it goes north to 60 degrees South latitude. If you want to call the fifth ocean as part of the real data, then the area of all the other oceans shrink. |

Another name for the Southern Ocean is the Antarctic Ocean. 70.78% of the world's surface is covered by water (land makes the remaining 29.22%). The weight of the world's oceans is around 145 million tons, which makes up about 0.022% of the world's entire weight. The volume of the world's oceans is around 1.37 billion cubic kilometers. The deepest point on the ocean floor is in the Pacific Ocean, called the Marianas Trench, at 35,797 feet (10,911 meters) below sea level. This measurement was surveyed by the Japanese probe Kaiko on March 24, 1995, to have been the most accurate measurement to date. Various books before 1995 give a less accurate depth. The location is at latitude 11 degrees 22 minutes North and longitude 142 degrees 36 minutes East. |
