Candido Lopez (1840-1902) |

Famous Argentinean painter, who depicted the conflict between the Triple Alliance and Paraguay. Lopez took part in the war as soldier. He was one of the first conscripts enrolled when the war broke out, engaging in the 2nd Volunteers Batallion of San Nicolas. In the Battle of Curupaity Lopez was severed wounded, loosing his right arm. Later he learned to paint with his remaider arm and made many works about the scenes he had seen during the conflict. His first paintings about the war appeared in 1885. As the years progressed, he painted some fifty scenes of the conflict. | |||||||||
