| A rare photo of the Paraguayan Legion, a force made up of Paraguayans that fought side by side with the Allied troops. Little is known about this force. For some historians, the soldiers were oblige to fight against their own country; for others, they were enemies of the Paraguayan government that embraced a chance of bringing Lopez' government out of office. Nevertheless, it played a small role during the war since it hardly had the strength of a battalion. Until the end of the conflict less than 800 men served in the legion.
