Lighthouse Pages
The Official Newsletter of Online Kappa  Fall 2004
The Editor’s Corner
Wow!  It's been awhile since a new edition of the Lighthouse Pages has graced the OLK website.  This is an abbreviated version of our newsletter, but I hope that you will find it informative and interesting.  Please be sure to visit the OLK Cookbook.

Have any ideas for the Lighthouse Pages?  I want to make our chapter newsletter everything that YOU would like it to be, so drop me a note with your suggests (umassbeta@yahoo.com).

Online Kappa Reaches Out
Although most of our current members were not part of OLK when the original structure of the chapter was decided upon, we have embraced the heritage of service established by our chapter founders.  Since the start of the 2004-2005 sorority year, OLK has already given two donations to very worthy causes.  The first contribution was a check to the Coalition Against Domestic Violence.  The donation was made in memory of our late sister, Becky.  More recently, the chapter has elected to make a financial gift to a fellow Beta Sigma Phi sister.  This brave woman lost all of her material possessions in the devastating storms that hit Florida this fall.  Hopefully, our gift will bring some relief to our sister and her family as they try to recover from their losses.

As prospective members of OLK, we may have wondered why we must pay dues to an online chapter.  See...our funds are put to valuable uses!  Because each of us has personally contributed to the OLK treasury through your annual dues and your Way & Mean contribution, we can all feel very good about OLK's influence in the world around us.
A Message from the President
Greetings to all!
As one of the remaining Charter Members of Online Kappa, I have seen all of the growing pains that went along with the formation of our chapter at a time when online chapters were still so very new. With diligence, OLK has managed to rise above many problems, and we have, today, the finest group of members in the online group.
Though I was reticent about accepting a second term as President, there is nothing I won’t do to keep our chapter moving forward. Today, we have volunteerism that is at a new high, with all programs and socials covered for the entire year! Members never hesitated to offer to Chair a committee, and the spirit of “working together” has been magnanimous, as well as encouraging beyond words.

The “magic” keeping OLK together is that of open communication between its members. Friendships have formed, personal problems have been shared, and a camaraderie exists that we can all be proud to say exhibits the pride and love we share in OLK.

In mid-May, we’ll attempt to have a “Gathering” in Nashville. Meeting one another face to face will bring us even closer! If there aren’t enough of us to make this happen, our chapter will still move ahead. We rise above situations with ease, and to me, this is our most valuable way of “Giving the Gifts of Sisterhood”.   Carrie
