Roles of Officers
President: Maintains connections between members, creates interest in ALD, sets meeting dates, runs meetings
Vice President: Assists president, takes over president’s activities in his absence, serves as club historian taking photos of events.
Secretary: Keeps accurate reports of meetings, handles correspondence with members
Treasurer: Handles club finances, pays bills, prepares annual financial report
*Editor: Liaison between chapter and national editor, contributes news of chapter to local campus media
*Junior and Senior Advisors: Aid administrative and faculty advisors in operation ofthe chapter
[Group decided that the asterisked roles should come into play in the club’s future when ALD has more members]

winner usually a big university with hundreds of members
need to get permission to list names of new inductees on the site, first need to get the list and contact information for each new member from Layeforest Donald (Theresa Mortimer’s assistant).

-Joyce Morgan gave permission for us to choose a guest speaker
Eleanor proposed the former Boston Pops conductor, no one could recall his name.  Very effective speaker, does not need to be paid.

Live 8 concert on campus

Chosen Cause: Live 8 Concert

to support “Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria” benefit concert to be given toward end of Spring 2006 semester (late April, early May)
*edit: after speaking to Joyce Morgan, Mike said it would be best to hold it at the same time as the end of semester festival, date forthcoming.
project would serve as awareness campaign to alert campus community of the cause to support health programs in underdeveloped countries, mainly those in Africa
need to contact senators to push for support of the Santorum-Durbin Amendment for global AIDS funding.

local radio stations Kiss 108 and Jamn 94.5 (entertainment and publicity)

Boston Red Sox, NE Patriots, Boston Bruins (celebrity guest appearances)
Mayor Thomas Menino (UMB graduate and charitable supporter)
other famous UMB graduates
Dr. Michael Collins, UMB Chancellor (administrative support, known for fundraising ability)
Dropkick Murphys, Aerosmith, other local bands (concert performance)
UMB event coordinators (contact about use of Campus Center lawn, stage, etc)
stars of upcoming film “The Departed” (celebrity appearances)
contact other UMass ALD chapters, see if they want to be involved
each officer will write drafts of letters to be sent to celebrities, to be printed and shared at next meeting.  Mike will send the other officers the official ALD logo to put at the top of the letters.
