The Umberlexicon (Book of Shadowed Words) is a collection of illustrated volumes transcribed ceturies ago by the pre-Christian demon, Dhaqilatss. It contains arcane knowledge amassed at that time by the loathsome occupants of Its home dimension, Tholhivez.  Over the centuries it has been added to and expanded by each of its temporary owners.  Dhaqilatss is actually one of the more powerful members of a God-like race of beings called "The Forgotten Ones" created in a parallel plane of existence called Tholhivez.  They were some of the first bio-spiritual beings to interact with humanity.  When a rivalry formed between The Forgotten Ones and their co-inhabitants, "The Primordials", it threatened the development of humanity on Earth as well as the stability of the gateways between this reality and the countless others.
In an attempt  to re-balance the bio-spiritual harmony of Earth's
ecto-sphere with its corporeal-sphere, the Goddess Danu initiated an alliance between other divine entities that protected this spiritual plane.  Together, these Gods of various Earth cultures influenced the spiritual-genetic-baseline (S. G. B.) that let figures throughout the world develop a self-regenerating bloodline of champions.  Amongst the first generation of these champions was a powerful geomancer named Aztrin the Healer
Through divine guidance, Aztrin transformed himself into the other-dimensional form of an "
Arachnaut" to do combat with The forgotten Ones.  He succeeded in destroying or imprisoning many of them.  In order to continue Its endevours in secret, Dhaqilatss exiled Itself to the subterranean regions of Earth in a state of mystic suspended animation.  As a safeguard and a time-sensitive artifact of reanimation, It created the first manifestation of the Umberlexicon.  The arcane information was dictated to an adept human who had been seduced by the promise of power.  His name has been lost in antiquity.
   The
metaphysical knowledge was burned by this acolyte onto thin wooden sheets and bound by metal rings.  This first manifestation became the conduit to Dhaqilatss' earthly servants above ground who would tap Its sleeping mind as a source of continuing power and information.  Aztrin the Healer eventually died at the hands of a lesser Primordial from whom he was trying to extract information before he could locate Dhaqilatss' lair.
Later in history, the Umberlexicon would pass into the possession of the
Thyd Brotherhood headquartered near a region in the Carpathian Mountains.  This perverted group of Dhaqilatss worshipers made six copies of the volume and anointed them with an enchanted liquid that prevented its destruction.  Within the Umberlexicon were mystic symbols that would activate if burned, awakening Dhaqilatss.  In essence, Dhaqilatss had a perpetual medium through which to manipulate Its pawns as well as a talisman that allowed gates to open for Its siblings.
Considering Dhaqilatss dictated the first text and images to a human long before international linguistic skills were available, it was written in the obscure language of the acolyte's family.  Using the Umberlexicon as a mystical translation link to Dhaqilatss, the
High Priest of the Thyd Brotherhood included translation notes in their own priestly language of Nuloz.  Much later, translations were made in Latin, Greek, Gaelic, Nemhenic, Hebrew and English.
   Most
mortals, without proper discipline who read the Umberlexicon courted seduction and corruption by the mind of Dhaqilatss and the power of the tome while inadvertently gaining the eternal attention of The Forgotten Ones and The Primordials.  However, stewards possessing the S.G.B. bloodline, mystics of great willpower and skill and people of intense spiritual conviction and faith have proven to be nearly immune to the sentient book.
   In the sixth century
C.E. an expanded copy (one of six) fell into the hands of a British sorceress called Lilliana.  She used her mystic skills to translate the Umberlexicon into the British language of her day and tattoo it onto human flesh.  After the tattooing, the flesh was then peeled from the still-living people and bound with the wooden copy between copper covers.  This copy is commonly refered to as "The Copper Text".  Although the actual name of these arcane manuscripts is unpronounceable, it was Lilliana who first coined the term "Umberlexicon" for the original volume as well as all other copies collectively and seperately.  Lilliana used the newly formed Coper Text to awaken Dhaqilatss briefly for the first time since Its self-imposed slumber.  Dhaqilatss manipulated her into imprisoning her mentor, Myrddin Kern, in an ice flow.  Then It nearly killed her, leaving a babbling shell of the sorceress she once was.  It took the Order of Knights Delta and Cathbad the Later's combined efforts to return Dhaqilatss to Its comatose state.
   A
Delta Knight named Valon of Persia was corrupted by the spirit of Dhaqilatss and stole the Copper Text with intent to join the Thyd Brotherhood.  Incorporating it with the original Wooden Text, the Thyd Brotherhood traveled nomadically to a succession of strongholds until the twelfth century.  An international group of ecto-sphere stewards, The Culigma, confronted the Thyd Brotherhood, capturing their current high priest along with the amalgamated Copper Text.  They then petitioned the Roman Catholic Church to try the Brotherhood for heresy.  The Thyd Brotherhood was found guilty of Satanic worship (erroneously) and those who had not escaped were put to death.  The Culigma then disassembled the amalgamated Copper Text and entrusted one page to each of its members worldwide.
The second manifestation of the Umberlexicon was re-assembled by a twelfth century cult of blood worshipers called "
The Umbrians" or "The Shadow People".  This Roman Catholic sub-cult sought to cleanse the Romanian regionof all Islamic influence by crating a supernatural champion.  This champion would assassinate influential Islamic leaders.  The Umbrians infiltrated a variety of Culigma safe houses, killing and stealing until they acquired every page of the amagamated Original/Copper Text It was then re-bound in snake skin leather and re-dubbed "The Grand Grimoire".  Invoking key formulae from the Umbrlexicon, The Umbrians created their blood-thirsty super patriot for Romania.  Through this mystical blood-rite, a peasant known only as Fulmoi became Europe's earliest known "created" vampire
Fulmoi soon turned many of the monastary's
monks into his vampiric children and together they overthrew the Umbrian sect, slaying all of them save five who escaped.  These survivors managed to secure this second manifestation (Grand Grimoire) to a German castle in a place called Heidenturm where they established a private bibliothek.  They recruited mystics, scholars, scientist and clerics to be members and agents, renaming themselves "Der Schrankenwarters".  They dedicated their lives to protecting the ectosphere and preventing use of the Umberlexicon.  Upon eviction by Hohenzollern, Der Schrankenwarters rallied the people of Kaiserburg to overthrow the Hohenzollern Family and their "Forgotten" allies.  Han Bubesohn, who later founded a similar group to Der Schrankenwarters (Der Turmer) salvaged both text.  His group kept the G.G / Copper Text Umberlexicon and left the Hohenzollern Text with Der Schrankenwarters.
It is not know what became of every copy and the original Umberlexicon and their amalgamations during undocumented time periods, or who owned them.  Der Turmer's amalgamation was stolen from their Berlin Vorposte by the
Fulmoi Kindred between 1500 and 1650 CE.  Fulmoi had kept a low profile for centuries before 1500 and used many pseudonyms, faking his death countless times.Through employment of vampires, thieves, assassins, and spies, Fulmoi located and combined all six  Thyd copies with the original enhanced amalgamation of the Umberlexicon into the encyclopedic format it still exists in today.  Each volume was linked to the others, enhancing, supplementing and strengthing their combined power.
Fulmoi and his kindred controlled the Umberlexicon in Europe until 1691 whein the Fulmoi and his followers were seemingly wiped out by a
vampire-hunting branch of the Culigma.   After the asault on Fulmoi 's Italian villa compound, the ruins were scavanged and looted.  All copies were looted and presumed sold on the black market.
