| The Meaning of "Issachar"...? Issachar was the fifth son of the Jewish Patriarch, Jacob. (Genesis 30:17,18). His descendants became the Tribe of Issachar, which was one of the twelve Tribes of Israel Was business minded. Issachar means "man of hire". Was one of the six tribes that proclaimed blessings upon Israel in the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 27:12) Was the tribe singled out for its wisdom and understanding of the times. Their knowledge and judgment provided needed help in making decisions for the nation of Israel. Was the tribe that bore burdens. Jacob prophesied that Issachar was a strong beast of burden resting among the saddlebags". Therefore, the descendants of the Tribe of Issachar were both laborers and intercessors.
