From the first Boyds doll that I saw, I knew that I had to have it. I was never interested in dolls gowing up. I am sure that I had a few, but from what I can recall, I dragged them around the house by the hair or by the leg, but never did I have a doll such as these. First came Victoria...dressed in her old fashioned outfit. I was destined to collect them because they matched so well with the Dollstones. From the first purchase, I knew that I was hooked.
My collection of dolls has grown quite quickly over the past couple years. I think the "Head Bean" is playing a game of progressive mathematics with the dolls. He started out with two...Victoria and Karen, and then three...Emily, Laura, and Betsy, then four...Brittany, Ms. Ashley, Jamie, and Lara, and now he had added five...Julia, Melissa, Katherine, Erin, and Wendy. When you add in the special QVC dolls of Elizabeth and Kelly and all the premier editions dolls....you are talking bunches of dolls. No matter how many he decides to add to the collection, I will be waiting.
August, 1999. The wait is over. The new dolls are in the stores now and I managed to find all of the them to add to my collection. Amy w/ Edwin..."momma's clothes" is the perfect companion for my Dollstone. Kayla & Kirby..."Harvest Time", adds a perfect touch for any fall venue. Add Candice w/ Macintosh..."gathering apples" and I can feel the chill of Fall in the air (as much as I can in Florida).Jean & Nutmeg..."the bakers" spices up my kitchen...did someone say gingerbread? Anne w/ Rockwell..."the masterpiece" brings out the artist in me and when the world is quiet. Cheryl & Ashlie..."nighty night", make me remember that a new day is only hours away. How could I fail to mention the earlier version of Cheryl Ann & Ashie on QVC? The premier edition is a great deal different than the general release..."pinker" with a pillow!
How could I forget to mention the new open edition 12" dolls Boyds has come out with this season. The first three introductions are:
- Laura with Lucy..."school days",
- Allison with Andy..."Bird Watchin"
- Brittany with Ben..."Goin' To Grandma's"
The second group of 12 inch dolls are:
and each edition I am told will be 5,000 pieces. Bring them on Gary...I can always build an addition to my house to display all of them!
- Kellie with Evan..."the fun of collecting"
- Betsy with Troy..."day at the lake"
- Catherine with Doolittle..."the nurse is in"
The Year 2000 Arrives
What better way could a Boyds Doll lover start of the year 2000 than with the introduction of such wonderful creations as Alyssa w/ Caroline and Carla..."a stitch in time" (this years G.M. Choice),
Nicole with Buzz..."sweeter than honey", Lucinda with Gilligan..."by the sea", Molly with Crocket..."winged friends", Rebecca with Elliot..."birthday", and Taylor with Jumper..."play time"; all cuter than the last and all 16" of pure Boyds fantasy. Boyds didn't forget about adding to the 12" line of dolls this year ether. Paige with Spinner ..."around the world" portrays a "tom boy" with a yoyo; Erica with Ferris..."carnival fun" (cotton candy of course), Leah with Windy..."summer breeze", Joni with Patch..."strawberry fields" (with a strawberry of course) , Emilee with Otis..."forever" (the 12" version of the old fashiomed bride doll) and Erin Lynn eith Squirt..."peppermint lemonade" (my favorite). By the look of the first Boyds offering...it is going to be an exciting time for collectors.No Stopping HIM Now
Just when you think it is safe to watch QVC, Gary comes out with a new batch of dolls. Added to the Boyds doll lineup on "President's Day, 2000" were the following new dolls
#C98291 Lindsay with Leonard..."the Recital 2" complete with a violin;
#C98295 Meredith with Jacqueline..."Daisy Chain", if this is anything like the Dollstone, it is sure to be a keeper;
#C98294 Whitney with Wilson...:Tea Time", this doll is already in the 2000 line of dolls. I am told this is a premier of that doll;
#C98296 Olivia with Pearl..."Coloring Time", the promise of primary colors is the main attraction of this new doll;
#C98293 Melissa Lynn with Katie..."the Ballet" is another verson of the white ballerina but this one in pink.
Last but not least
#C98290 Angelflyte with Vintage...."time flies", Boyds first angel doll, she seems very victorian and very pretty with her cherub-like face.Dolls...Dolls...And More Dolls
I have tried to keep pace with all the dolls that Boyds has offered over the years but there are so many dolls and so little time, I decided to search the web for a listing to keep track of the dolls but only found bits and pieces of the collection. I have gathered these "pieces" together along with some photos and offer them as help for whoever else might be looking.The dolls are divided into the 12" editioned dolls and the limited editions. I have also added the dolls offered on QVC and San Francisco Music Box Company (one 12" and one 16"). If anyone has knowledge of other Boyds dolls, please let me know.
